Add statins (cholesterol meds) to the list of testosterone lowering medications.
Statins are effective and popular cholesterol-lowering medications. But they also have some possible side effects, including memory loss and high blood sugar. Now lower testosterone may join the list.

Now when I get blood work done for my wellness program at work, it'll be interesting to see where my cholesterol levels are at. I have already cleaned up my diet, so I'm hopeful it's fine.
Funny thing is, none of my doctors put 2&2 together about the statin sides.

Either that or your doctors considered the high cholesterol more of a risk than low t.
I'm.considering getting off simvastatin. Depends on my next bt result. I probably won't tell my doctor though. Just stockpile it for when I cycle. Same with propanolol. My bp is good now so probably don't really need it anymore on a daily basis.

f i had to guess, id say yes.
The question is, how can one come off statins and still keep cholesterol in check? My dad's t is 412 on statins and diabetes meds, im sure if he came off the statins hed be at 500, which at 56 is def a solid elvel...and id advise him to stay natural. his cholesterol goes up though.
what about niacin or lovaza?

Slo-Niacin will help. Good DHEA levels will as well.

Bashing Statin Meds seems to happen a lot on here. It’s really a disservice to those Men who may actually need to take these class of drugs IMO. A lot of the troubles encountered occur from Docs over dosing these meds. I'm on 15 mgs of Crestor per week. My lipids are perfect most of the time with no other adverse affects being present. Like anything on this forum, you should discuss the use of Statins with your Doc before making any decisions...

Lovaza is good stuff and already contains Vitamin E so you don't have to take that separately.

according to the article quoted, "In five trials involving 501 men taking statins, testosterone levels decreased by an average of 0.66 nmol/L (a measure of nanomoles per liter). "
that is slightly less than 20ng/dL.
doesn't sound like much to me. weigh that against the risk of getting a heart attack from uncontrolled cholesterol, some of us might just choose the statin anyway.

does lovaza only deal with triglycerides like someone else said? my triglycerides were 89 so not too bad..my ldl and total need improvement.
why do u take e? i only take d and b12...so if i ever start trt my stack will be d, b12, lovaza, and trt/hcg .

There's really nothing lovazo can do, that an OTC supplement can't. The only reason I like it is because it contains E. Vitamin E protects the fatty acids. So I take LEF fish oil which is high in EFA's along with Vitamin E Tocopherols. Always take E with fish oil.

yeah i agree wih you that lovaza is nothing special, and to be honest i think liquid fish oild otc is better..i used to take one and got an easy 3300k omega 3( dhea and epa not just fish oil) from a spoon ful...but my question was more along the lines of fish oil in general. Is it benficial for total chol and ldl, or just triglycerides?
I didnt know that about the vitamin e!
you should try this product i used to take it..it's really tasty too...Nature's Answer, Liquid Omega-3, Deep Sea Fish Oil EPA/DHA, Natural Orange Flavor, 16 fl oz (480 ml) - iHerb.com
hmm should i buy this again and say screw the lovaza?

^ If that label is accurate, that's a decent dose. I like it. Get some E tocopherol and you're good to go.
