    Pregnenolone

I've read some this should be added to TRT protocol. Anyone know anything about it?

I started taking it recently. TRT doctor said it's good for helping reduce water retention.

Not that I can point a finger to but my life is so out of whack most of the time I would not notice if a brick fell on my head, literally. It has to be pretty significant for me to notice anything. I actually dont even know when I cut myself most of the time until I see blood dripping on the floor and I have to start looking for where it's coming from. hahaha

I also work 12 hr shift, I work nights and frequently up 24hr+ at a time so fatigue is common.

another interesting "pre" hormone (not a PH in the typical sense as it is used here) is DHEA

Great article 2Sox, thank you. Once my BW is done next month my doc will likely forget about me and I plan to start HCG .

In the meantime would supplementing Preg & DHEA be a logical plan? Pretty sure I can get Preg from the Vitamin Shoppe

Spend some time learning about both. There is much to learn. If there is a specific question, then.........?

So, going by that post - if you are using a proper dose of HCG then you wouldn't need to injest Pregnenolene from an outside source if testes are functioning "normal"??

My pregnenolone is low (likely my age) so I supplement twice daily at 50mg each. I also supplement with DHEA five times a week. MRM supplements make a micronized version. Try to get them. Vitacost or Vitamin Shoppe are both good.

Be careful with DHEA. It's easy to go too high and you don't want that. See if your doc will include DHEA-S on your blood work. My blood work told me I was over-supplementing and that's why I cut back to 5x week - 50mg. In range now.

hCG is an LH analog - meaning that it mimics the hormone the pituitary secretes to stimulate the Leydig cells of the testes to produce Testosterone .

Edit: From my knowledge, pregnenolone is primarily produced in the adrenals but is produced elsewhere in the body too - liver, skin, brain, testes. Therefore, hCG would have some effect on pregnenolone production from the testes, however nominal. It is believed that TRT can lessen adrenal hormone production so this is another likely reason pregnenolone is supplemented. It is also common knowledge that pregnenolone and DHEA production lessens with age (I am a case study) so here pregnenolone supplementation can be useful too.

No worries, I shared your thought process Brett. If your testes are not "shut down" then your Preg levels should typically be okay (according to the article 2Sox). To me that's a great pro for HCG in addition to battling atrophy.

Much to learn is an understatement, it's quit fascinating. Main question was if anyone was on it.

Have read you should front load when starting it (like creatine).

Many of us are on it. You very well may need to be as well but BW should be your guide, not just the fact that you are on TRT. There is zero need to front-load it. Preg and DHEA are precursors to testosterone , which comes from cholesterol, and it's beneficial to back fill those pathways. Like 2Sox said, micronized is your first choice and MRM brand is what I use as well.

Re the comments about needing or not needing it due to using HCG . It still depends on BW whether primary or secondary hypogonadal.

My doc will not suggest this and I'm sure he's never heard of it, once my BW is done I will post it and please help with an opinion.

I've read that sublingual Preg is the way to go but haven't found a source for that yet.

I've been taking 30 mg pills twice a day and energy is off the charts, it almost feels like a recreational drug..

I will stop taking it before BW

I am using Preg a few days as of now at 50 mg daily.
I might up the dose to 100 mg daily.
I feel quite chilled out on Preg.
Don't know if that's how one is supposed to feel!

**I DID NOT WRITE THIS** - forgot where i got it..

Pregnenolone: steroid hormone power to beat stress and boost memory

Often described as the mother of all hormones, naturally occurring pregnenolone acts to improve memory and combat depression - and has powerful anti-inflammatory arthritis pain relieving properties.

Pregnenolone isn’t actually a steroid hormone , but what’s known as a metabolite – the molecules forming part of the chemical chain behind human development.

Pregnenolone acts as a key building block in the body’s steroid hormone production during the cellular growth process powered by mitochondria. Mitochondria act as the power source to drive the growth of cells in the body by generating ATP – short for adenosine triphosphate – a form of chemical energy. In a typical human cell there may be thousands of mitochondria, which also contain pregnenolone.

Inextricably linked to this cellular growth process, pregnenolone forms the raw material for hormone production. This explains why it’s inadvertently called the mother of all hormones, the pregnenolone hormone and sometimes the adrenal hormone (being formed in the adrenal gland and central nervous system).

Pregnenolone certainly plays a vital part in hormone production: From the steroid hormone Progesterone, to estrogen, testosterone and the dhea steroid hormone (short for dehydroepiandrosterone), Pregnenolone is behind them all.
    What is dehydroepiandrosterone?

Like its counterparts estrogen, testosterone , cortisone and Progresterone, dehydroepiandrosterone is a steroid hormone that Pregnenolone helps to produce.
    The benefits of pregnenolone

Research into pregnenolone benefits can be traced back to the 1940s, when it was found to aid the productivity of factory workers, whilst helping to reduce stress. Pregnenolone for pain relief research also centered on pregnenolone’s excellent anti inflammatory properties, particularly in the treatment of arthritis.
What is pregnenolone used for today?

While pregnenolone benefits had been established and found safe to use as a pregnenolone supplement , it wasn’t until the 1990s that pregnenolone rose to prominence again – this time as an anti aging memory enhancer and an aid to boost memory.

Research cantered on the brain hormone factor and how pregenenolone benefits mental health and wellbeing as part of the complex steroid hormone production process. The scientific community was interested in how the pregenolone metabolic process could influence mental health, stress and depression, with pregnenolone supplementation perhaps acting as an anti depression supplement .

In addition to stress and depression, pregnenolone supplementation also entered the anti aging arena to address mental decline and memory loss, and act as a memory enhancer. As optimal levels of pregnenolone are known to be important for mental health and cognitive functions, pregnenolone therapy came to be viewed as an important anti aging product, along with fellow cognitive enhancers such as Idebenone, piracetam, Hydergine and Vitamin B12.
    Progresterone Pregnenolone & DHEA

Pregnenolone’s interlinking role in producing steroid hormones such as the Progresterone hormone , estrogen hormone , testosterone hormone , and dhea hormone may play a part in anti aging health.
Why consider a Pregnenolone hormone supplement ?

Men and women typically have differing amounts of pregnenolone, while lifestyle, exercise, stress levels and age also play a part. By the age of 70 Pregnenolone levels in the body may have declined by up to 60 per cent – which is why older people may consider taking a pregnenolone dosage as part of a regular pregnenolone supplement .
    Pregnenolone Uses

As a memory enhancer, the pregnenolone hormone action appears to aid knowledge acquisition and boost long term memory capabilities. A 1995 clinical study produced pregnenolone testimonials vouching for its effectiveness, particularly in relation to use of dhea to improve memory capabilities. During this trial, pregnenolone was found to be a potent memory enhancer – and possibly up to 100 times more effective than dhea.

Women embarking on the post-menopausal stage of their life may also find pregnenolone benefits them, as it offers a natural estrogen therapy and way to increase estrogen.

A pregnenolone supplement is available in tablet form and as a pregnenolone cream. As a natural supplement , Pregnenolone is safe to use and presents few side effects . However, care should be taken if you have a history of seizures due to the way that Pregnenolone reacts with the GABA receptors in the central nervous system.

From anti inflammatory arthritis pain relief to help with depression and memory loss, discovering more about pregnenolone presents a range of anti aging benefits.

Juced's post above give a great overview of preg. One neat thing to keep in mind is that it's a transformer hormone or metabolite. Meaning it can and will transform into what the body needs downstream. It's not set on just one pathway.

I tried both Preg and DHEA, in pill and gel and the only thing I got from DHEA was nothing lol, Preg made me warm then I took a nap every time. Everyone is different you can try it but go on how you FEEL not bloodwork, get the bloodwork once you feel good and see what the numbers are.

You have to remember everyone is pushing this stuff for $$$ just like Broteen I mean proteen powder 400g a day for max gains

Just a FYI that was posted on another forum by Dr. John Crisler:

HCG is an analog of LH. LH increases the activity of the P450scc enzyme, converting CHOL to PREG.

But remember that the majority of pregnenolone is NOT produced in the testes but in the adrenals.
