    Lower back pain

I had this lower back pain start about a month ago. When I bend my upper body over its a pain and its stiff at the lowest part of my back. I try deadlifting with it (bad idea) and I can't come within 150-250 lbs of what i usually do. I was readin that when to heat sticky and i didnt see if it said back on there..maybe i missed it?

I have always heard never ice your back, only heat it. I was thinking just to take 2-3 weeks off deadlifts all together and maybe it will go away. Anything else to keep it mind??

I really hope for your sake its nothing serious i been injured for 6 years now after doing squats and deadlifts.

I would get this checked right away dont take any chances and get some x rays.

After 6 years of shit i found a chiro (Competant this time around) that made me take some x rays, he found a calcium depot in one of my neck vertebrae and made me work on my posture.

If you wait to long and are in pain most of the time you tend to bend your head forward to minimize the pain at least thats what i did and my posture is hell today.

Good luck bro and hope everything will turn up fine.

If your back is swollen lower back its alright to ice, but dont do it more then 10 minutes at a time

I have the same problem ( tight lower back ) . REALLY stretch your legs well and lay off the Deads and Squats for awhile .
I go for massages ( deep tissue ) and it fixes the problem righ away for me .
And yes got a Doc but make sure he is sports orientated .

If streching and deep tissue massage solve the problem then there is nothing to worry about, my situation is a bit worst the pain always comes back.

    Good luck

Very helpful. You know I have been thinking lately I really dont get much calcium in my diet. Sweet potatoes have a little I believe but that would really be my only source.

Plan is to take about 3-4 weeks of deadlifting all together. I just woke up one day and it hurt-it wasn't the result of performing a lift with bad form or anything-as I hadn't lifted in a few days prior to that. Thanks for the advice guys it really helped out.

my lower back acts up every now and then. when it does I get a deep tissue massage then do this leg workout till it feels better.
    leg press 6x20
    leg curls 6x20
    leg ext. 6x20
    standing calf raises 1x75
    crunchs 2x20
    it's my bad back workout.

I was thinking today that Im just gonna hit leg presses, leg ext and leg curls. I still have been doing squats heavy..last week without a belt (smart huh) and it hasnt been getting better im sure thats why. So from now on Im not gonna squat til it improves. And- i HATE not squatting. I need squats

Consider youself being lucky that you can train, i have been more off then on for 6 years now cause the pain keeps coming back, i would love to kill butcher murder each so called specialist that i seen over the years that didnt do shit for me, charging anywhere from 50$ to 75$ for a treatment.

I finally found a good chiroprator but the damage has been done, i have degeneration phase 2 in one of my disk in the neck, its not that bad but still if i would have been treated the right way at the start of my injury i wouldnt have wasted all theses years in my life.

Chest 6 sometimes you need to evaluate the situation and see what is worth doing and not doing, i will never ever squat again, nor will i deadlift again, but chiro says i will be able to train again with my head this time around.

Each time i will train from now on i have to roll a small towel and put it behind my neck to make my natural curve. And its gonna take a while to get back lifting heavy if i ever do that again.

Seeing your body change from looking awsome at 210 pounds all natural with a waistline of 34 inch, going to 230 pounds of pig shit aint fun.

Good luck to you in your rehab and give this some toughts no one is invincible, thats what i tought when i was lifting all theses heavy weights with bad forms and i am paying for it now.

Look at that beautiful picutre of myself 2 years after my injury what a hunk hey

Yeah. Since I read your previous post I have been taking this annoyance much more seriously. I was going to continue to squat but I've realized I cant. I may look into a Deep Tissue massage..

Chest, REST UNTIL YOU FEEL NO PAIN AND REST 1-2 MORE WEEKS after that oops caps.

Do stretches, but not too far, every day and light warmup type exercises in the meantime.

When you feel better, do good mornings and SLDLs to help build up your lower back as well as "loosen it up" a bit. Seemed to help me when I had bad bad lower back problems, compressed l4/l5 disc.

I hate time off too but you have to swallow the truth, you are injured, thast why you feel pain, and your body is telling you to stop it so stop and rest, then go at it again with perfect form.

SLDL, squats, deadlifts and rows are going to help you if you do them preoperly and ruin you if you don't use 100% proper form.

I hurt my wrist and am taking a week off. I felt better, no pain, yesterday but I am not lifting til monday. I think it is a good idea IMO.

When you train with an injury you will make it worse obviously so, well, yuou get the picture. I am just trying to give you my honest opinion on injuries and training based on my expereinces.

Weird thing is it didnt hurt after that. It hurt randomly when I woke up like 10 days after that I initially blamed it on my bed

Yeah I guess you are right. I slacked on form for a week and this happens. When you're tryin to move heavy weight you cant have any mistakes.

This just sucks...it needs to go away quickly i hope its not a disk

if ti is a disc like mine, you would be bed ridden.

Go to a doc to be sure...?

Holding perfect form is mroe mental than anything, Im sure you can do it.

I pretty much did up until then. Like you said its mental. I really rushed it without thinking of keeping my back arched through the movement like I usually do.

    Describe the pain more.
    Skeletal or muscular?
Is there ANY pain when not bending?
Can you twist and/or stretch w/o pain?
    Do OTC anti-inflammatories help?

There is no pain unless I bend straight down. The pain is at the lowest point of my back..seems almost at the tie in with my back and glutes. It is on the left side and now the middle as well. Same spot. I really cannot tell if it is muscular or skeletal. I would really have no way of knowing. I hope its muscular because I'd think skeletal would be worse.

I try to put my back on the floor and roll back and put my legs over my head to stretch it. Only way I know how. Havent really tried any OTC meds yet..I really havent needed them unless I try to squat or deadlift.

I used to heat to warm up and ice to cool down after I lift. I think that is the general rule of thumb.

Yeah-that sounds about right. Im not going to do any deadlifts, heavy bent over rows, or squats until it feels better..then not til 2 weeks after that will I start.

I tried deadlifting heavy 2 weeks ago and that was a HUGE mistake and a HUGE setback.

Ive been holding off squats and deadlifts but I still will try leg press. Do yall think doing leg press is a bad idea?

Im thinkin bout going to see a chiro but not sure how much they cost to deal with this sort of thing. I am pretty sure the problem is skeletal and not muscular. Im just really ready for this problem to go away and icing+laying off squat/deadlift alone aren't really helping much.

i don't know who told you never use ice... but... use ice...

but hey, i've only been through 5 years of physical therapy for a back injury.. what do me and 20 doctors know..

rest is always a good thing, but with the lower back there is probably an alignment issue, a chiro (if you like them or not) could do wonders for ya...

Chiros can help chest but MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT CROOKS!!!!

I had one try to tell me a bunch of lame bullshit, like I knew nothing about the human body. He told me my neurons were firing incorrectly causing imbalances with my feet and tried to tell me I was too heavy for my height and I should buy his weight loss product dude, I wanted to seriously kick th emuther****ers ass.

I did manage to find a decent chiro though, they pop my shit, massage it and I am on my way, no bullshit.

Heat helps warm me up before I lift I think. I take a hot as I can handle shower, and it helps me loosen up I feel.

after though, ice feels much better on ijured type areas.

Ive been meaning to get a massage too...that sounds good bout now
