possible back injury? or maybe its just a pinch nerve?

I hurt my upper back, i feel it when i twist my back or look all the way to the left, or right. It could be from decline sit ups with a twist(i did fast twist), or barbell curls(proper form but my biceps are alot stronger than my back), or squats(inproper form)

its been 2 days. Happened to me on saturday night/sunday morning.

Never got this before, not sureif i just pulled a back muscle and it will go away on its on in a week?

Most likely it's pulled muscle or pinched nerve, either way the treatment is the same. ICE!!! 20 minutes on, 20 minutes of at least 4-6x in a row. I pulled/pinched mine a few weeks ago to where I could not more my right arm more than 1in without SEVERE pain. I could not move my neck either in any direction. I would say I was at a 8.5 in pain and I have been at 9.9 before, 10 being passed out from pain. I did black out but only for moments at a time. Lower back, L5/S1 ruptured disk.

The first day I iced my upper back while at work for several hours. It was 20% better by the end of the day. I fell asleep on a ice pad that night. Same drill the next day; it was 80% better and the 3rd day 95%. The ice will be uncomfortable at first but soon you will get use to it and it will feel better. DONT use heat, this will make it worse. Get a good ice/gel pack, not crushed ice or anything like that. You can use a pack of frozen peas in a pinch.. LOL

Good luck and keep us updated.

Yea I made that mistake of using a heating pad because I thought it was a pulled muscle. lobyts I am surprised you pain went away so fast. My neck has been killing me for three weeks now. Pain has gotten much more tolerable, but for some reason I have lost alot of strength in one arm/shoulder when I bench. Fatigue sets in quickly even using light weight. I have a Dr. appointment this Friday with a neck specialist. Hey twin I didnt mean to high jack your post. With your injury being so new, it is hard to tell. lovbyts is right, keep it iced. If the pain persists when you turn your head, then I would say it is a pinched nerve. Give it five days of total rest before making that call though.

How is it feeling now? I think mine went away so fast because I was persistent and kept it iced 30 min on, 30 off for 12 hrs or more each day for 3 days. You cant just do it 2 or 3 times and expect it to go away fast.

I have had to do the same thing for sciatic nerve in my lower back. It took 2 full days. Usually I would just take some prednisone if I had it on hand but I didnt and it was the weekend. Being persistent is the key I believe.

Now if I could just get my shoulders to stop hurting

i hope all it all goes well, i was one of the rather unfortuniate ones, 25 years old and already had back surgery, 2 ruptured 1 herniated 1 bulging, had that combo for a whole year and did nothing but eat vicodin like candy.. that was probably the only good thing haha
