The US (Bush) surely didn't care what the UN thought when it decided to unilaterally invade Iraq...

I doubt Iran cares what the UN thinks about their position on the Brit hostages either.

I don't think the UN holds much weight in instances such as these other than it's humanitarian and peacekeeping ambitions.

Of course Iran doesn't care! They've had UN sanctions on them for quite a while now and they've said over and over that they will continue with their nuclear program.
