The fact that White people think this scares me. You guys are getting riled up over nothing. I mentioned it a few times where I grew up is pretty much all White. My brother and I were accepted to several colleges. We wanted to go to University of Michigan because all of our friends were going there. Our parents sent us to Howard University because they wanted us to have exposure to other minorities. Something we did not get much of growing up. It was an eye opening experience and they made the right decision. I met other people like "me." It felt nice not always being the one dark person in the room.

Until we know the problem and it is excepted, we can not solve anything. As I said earlier in this thread, any negative comments made by a "white" about a "minority group" will be skewed as racism. This solves nothing and just reinforces the status quo.

Another person who doesn't know what they are talking about and needs to do some research before spouting off more false stereotypes. Sure there are several private scholarship funds for minorities but the same exists for whites as well. The Sons of the Confederacy offer a scholarship to whites, more white kids are granted Pell grants for schools than minorities. Like Carlos said historically black colleges offer scholarships to low income whites. The Knights of Columbus offers scholarships to Italian Americans (and yes Italians are white). The Jewish Community Centers around the country offers scholarships to Jews (who are white). See, its comments like this that shows how people continue stereotyping people without knowledge of the truth. Like Logan said, nobody wants to debate facts... only labels.

Nobody has pandered to minorities, Logan. That's another misnomer. The reason for these programs that grant minorities equality across the board were put into place because of a history (and a continued history) of racism in this country. If everything were equal and continued to be equal we wouldn't need these programs. Yet, they shout from the rooftops at every opportunity (figuratively) "We're different than you!". GENERALLY speaking, they stick together. They maintain a separate culture from the mainstream. They maintain their own separate needs and issues. They publicly dislike "whitey" (Paul Mooney, for example "I don't like white people".

This is not how you gain acceptance in any group.

When you really look at it, the establishment really has paved the way for the less fortunate to at least have the chance to succeed. School is free, but you have to GO. Colleges and universities bend over backwards to "diversify". Hell, they'll put you on the front page of their brochure. Sure, they have their own agenda there but it is to your benefit.

As for the media, I don't think the original article is that telling. Firstly, it only applies to news talk shows. Look at entertainment television, there surely is an over-representation of blacks there (MTV, E!, etc). Remember, blacks are roughly 17% of the population in America. If they truly were treated as equals they would only be represented in that ratio in the media.

However, look at every commercial. For ever 1-2 whites there has to be a black/minority. Maddox just did a whole bit on it on his site. Corporate America loves diversity....LOVES it. Again, albeit most likely on alternate motives.

So here we are now, and people are clearly still unhappy about their situation in this country. The question looms "what next?". Clearly blaming history and white people and economics isn't producing the results needed. A Victim mentality is a self-defeating one. Perhaps a little introspection into some of the negative aspect of "your" own culture could produce a movement from within that would really make a change? Paul Mooney has his own opinion and does not speak for all Black people. Having your own culture is a bad things? Italians do it. Same for Jews. It is possible to integrate without having to assimilate and lose your culture.

Every TV show does not have a reoccurring gay or Black character. Look at the TV show Friends. It was years before they added a Black character to the show and it only happened after people made a huge stink about it. It was the whitest show on TV.

Yeah, that hairdo scares me!!! LOL!!! MMA is a bit different because their demographic isn't minorities yet. It's fun to watch, but I don't believe the athleticism in that sport is that of other sports... yet!!! Now I don't want to start a MMA thread, I've gone back and forth on this with the guys in the boxing/mma forum already.

What I was saying initially is I can understand the reasoning behind their fear of the increase in minorities in the US. Some people (kfrost in particular) need to stop trying read to much into my statement. I think Logan would agree that I showed my true colors a long time ago. I'm black and never denied that!!!!
