RENO, Nev. - A controversy over the proper display of the American flag came to a head Monday as cameras were rolling.

It began when a store in Reno, Nevada hung a Mexican flag above an American flag.

    That's illegal.

While a photographer from NBC affiliate KRNV was outside the business an angry man claiming to be a veteran walked up to the flagpole and cut down both flags with a large knife.

The owner of the business is an American citizen and said he didn't know what he was doing was against the law.

He said he had bought the flags last week to replace old ones and he put the Mexican flag on top to support the Hispanic community.

In addition to the law saying no flag can be flown above the American flag, if you fly two country's flags they must be on different poles and they must be similar in size and height.

I'm all for everyone's right to free speech and expression.. but it kind of pisses me off when people move to this country and want to become citizens, but still display their home country's flag. If your country is so great why did you come here?

I was moving out of my apartment in Orange, CA and I had an American flag that I wanted to give to my neighbors. I saw a group of about 5 mexicans in the courtyard, so I asked them if they wanted it. They all got extremely pissed off and started cussing at me. They said, "where do you think Im from?"

I agree, get the fuvk out if you think your country's so great. Edited

    Wow, thats freakin disrespectfull.

I'm far from being the most patriotic "push the flag" guy out there, but that offends even me.

The dude should have taken a knife, and cut down the store owner instead.
