Schwarzenegger says Edited not a drug
Schwarzenegger says Edited not a drug
Sun Oct 28, 9:54 PM ET
LONDON - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says Edited is not a drug, a British magazine reported Monday. But his spokesman said the governor was joking.
Schwarzenegger told the British edition of GQ magazine that he had not taken drugs, even though the former bodybuilder and Hollywood star has acknowledged using Edited in the 1970s and was shown smoking a joint in the 1977 documentary "Pumping Iron."
"That is not a drug. It's a leaf," Schwarzenegger told GQ. "My drug was pumping iron, trust me."
Aaron McLear, Schwarzenegger's press secretary, said the governor made the comments in a lighthearted context, noting his interviewer was Piers Morgan, one of the judges on "America's Got Talent." Morgan is a former British newspaper editor.
"The governor was doing an interview with the host of 'America's Got Talent,' the newest version of the gong show," McLear said. "I think it's important to keep that quote in the context of the environment where it was said."
"Of course the governor understands Edited is a drug. It's like when he goes on Leno or the Daily Show, if you took something like that out of context, it might seem shocking but it was in a silly entertainment context," he added.
In the interview for the magazine's December issue, Schwarzenegger refused to condemn politicians who decline to answer questions about drug use.
"What would you rather have? A politician taking stuff and not saying, but making the best decisions and improving things? Or a politician who names all the drugs he or she has taken but makes lousy decisions for the country?" Schwarzenegger was quoted as saying.
"A politician's job is to do what's best for the people and to improve the country, the economy, the environment. Why should I care if a politician takes sleeping pills every night so long as he can do his job?" he added.
In the same interview, Schwarzenegger listed former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who left office in June, as one of the greatest leaders in history, alongside former South African President Nelson Mandela, Presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
Asked if he would include President Bush on the list, Schwarzenegger — a Republican — said: "I would say that I was ... very fond of his father. I worked for President Bush Sr., and he was a great man."
"I think his son does some great things and there are some other things I don't agree with."

We have jails at over capacity and we spend 1000s of police hours in the war on drugs....seems silly.

Anything that hinders your ability to be a productive part of society is not a positive thing. If you guys think that you need pot to survive the "stresses of daily life", toke on....
LEGAL OR NOT
A pothead is still a pothead.......

#1 lol logan. I dont smoke it...
#2 Beer?
#3 If someone wants to take any drug I dont think the govt has the right to tell them not to.. If they break some other law while under the influence then they should be punished. But Im not against the guy who wants to sit in his house and smoke a bale of the crap.
We shouldnt be wasting all this money on something that will never ever ever go away or be defeated. Its like having a money toilet that you keep flushing.

I find it funny how some drugs are socially "acceptable" and some aren't.
Although, it seems like the one in the thread topic is becoming more and more "acceptable" than it once was not long ago

Me, I don't much care for it. All it does is clog my sinuses and makes me giggle. Hmmm.
When I was an MP in the USAF years ago, I trained both police and drug sniffer dogs. But Airmen found with one solitary M seed were usually sentenced to 5 years in Ft. Levenworth. So, when my sniffer dog found leafy stuff in anyone's room, I'd usually flush it down the john, take the guy aside, and tell him to keep that stuff off base.
Harsh sentences for such offenses seems unreasonable, given that alcohol, which is more addictive and has greater health risks, is legal. So, that's one of the things I'm proudest of in my military service history -- that of saving a few dozen guys a felony record, and keeping them from spending 5 years in what's become nothing but a gang-controlled hell-hole where prisoners enter bad, and come out much worse.
Ya, I could see prison sentences for violent crime, but geez, not for herbs.
