Who thinks we should drill
Gas prices are ridiculous. Who wants to Drill Here Drill Now ?

Ill be one of the first to get the Chevy Volt, so gas prices will not worry me as much. I decided not to get a luxury car and wait for the volt to save money.

The Volt is gonna cost $40,000... I can buy a used car for $5000. How long will it take to spend $35,000 on gas? Hybrids arent much better.. The cost outweighs the benefit... for now anyway....

i wouldnt go buy a hybrid now, in just a few years, they'll have one that's better..
plus you should never buy sumthing brand new, things are going to happen..wait till they get the kinks out and make it better- that's what happens..
yea we should drill, but it wont fix the prices immediatly, it'll take a few years till the crude they pull to be usuable.

It's the first mass market car to use LIon bateries. Just the battery pack costs like 17grand, so that's one thing that makes the car so expensive. Yeah, it might not make sense for your wallet unless you were gonna spend that much on a car anyway. It is a positive step in driving down the cost of Lithium Ion batteries. Once they become cheap expect to see a lot of fully electric cars that get a minimum range of 200 miles per charge on the market.

support nuclear power and renuable electricity
Oil should never have been used to heat homes in the first place. Electric is the fuel of the future for home heating. Lay down some more insulation in your attic. Look into what your paying now for electric and figure out if it would be cost effective to convert. I'm helping someone build a house right now...he wants oil heat but at the same time we're puting in wire for electric in case the price of fuel oil goes way up. It will go up even more despite drilling efforts, tough to say when though...might come down short term, might go up. 10 or 15 years down the line though it will go up, there is no doubt.

How about Geo-Thermo heat systems? My neighbor spent $10,000 and it costs him $40 a month to heat his house... Anyone know more about this? I live out in the country and i am considering doing it also...

It's one of the most efficent heating and cooling systems of the market. Basically a heat pump, for example like an a/c unit or fridge. Except unlike an air to air heat pump, you use the natural buffer of the ground which is always somewhere around the same temperature once you go down several feet. Think of turning an a/c unit backwards, that would be heating your house by an air to air heat pump. Spin it around the other way and you're cooling by the same heat pump. Most heat pump systems can be run as heating and cooling systems, uses that available heat in the winter and puts heat back into the ground in the summer. Air to air heat pumps are not efficent in colder climates because you are essentially trying to blow the cold off the refidgerant with cold air. I give geothermal a thumbs up.

It will save you more money than a hybid at the pump, as long as you can tolerate the difficulty finding a fueling station. I know they get a couple hundred miles range, so maybe refueling every night and using as a commuter car works for you. even as a natural gas user you have incentive to support nuclear power and renuable electricity...natural gas has actually been far less expensive than it is today. A little more than 20% of the electricity in the US is produced by burning natural gas - the quantity of gas consumed in power plants has increased by 30% since 2000. Lower the percentage of electric produced by natural gas and that's good for the price of natural gas. I'm worried what happens to the cost of heating my home if natural gas starts to catch on as a fuel for cars. What the price demand elasticity is for natural gas, idk. I know it can be made by other ways than drilling but that's obviously the cheepest way at this time. I'm very skeptical about a large number of cars converting to natural gas like T.Boone Pickins would like for his piggy bank.
