I did not think they could do that in the cold states, I have family in denver and they told me they could not turn it off in the witer months but this was years ago so not sure whats going on now..

This is indeed WRONG!!! Corporate greed indeed. I doubt much will be done. This has been going on for years. I went to college with cats (scholarship athletes) who had to put a lit match in a mayo jar to make heat because the heat was cut off in the middle of winter (mostly midwest brothas). Utility companies didn't give a f*ck! So I doubt things will change!!!

This sort of thing isn't uncommon in the UK either, with lots of OAP's faced with the prospect of "eat or heat" as winter looms.
The fact that some of these old fellas are ex WW2 is even worse.
It's shocking how the governments of today have no respect for some of the elderly, especially those that fought in WW2. I remember a case last year where our government were gonna kick a load of ex Ghurka soldiers out the country because they had retired before 1997:

Not to derail the thread too much, but I just think it's very, very sad how these old boys that put their lives on the line so we could be here today could be treated so shabbily and without respect.
