cardio on the treadmill......
I have lost weight many times by using the treadmill. I like to go at a good pace then speed up, then run for four 1 minute intervals, almost at a sprint like pace. A sports Doctor that I see once told me that you could somewhat confuse the body by doing this, at the time I thought I was burning too much and my system would start to go after the lean muscle tissue?
Here is the problem, after a while my knees start to feel weak, and I get a pain right behind my knees like someone leg whipped me.
Any advise here, old shoes, old treadmill? A kid once told me that running on a treadmill was very bad on the knees, but you see everybody doing it.

most good gym treadmills have some sort of schock absorption which is better than running on flat ground...your body should not start going after lean muscle tissue if its not prolonged high intensity cardio... of course diet will dictate all of this though

Maybe do some eliptical or stairmaster sometimes .

My understanding on burning fat through cardio is keeping the heart rate between 65 and 70 %. Some one on here can confirm that Im sure. Also did alittle reserach on the amount of time. 45 min to an hour walking seems to be the norm. Also early am on empty stomach is better.
Ive started doing both: 45 in the morning watching the news with my wife, and another 45 after my workout. So far so good and knees dont hurt!

I think what EROC was trying to say was you started about weight loss then your knees . I think he ment that maybe cardio at 70% heart rate would still give you the weight loss and preserve your knees . I personally do 45 mins cardio every morning before breakfast 5 days per week with 250mg caffeine and green leaf tea and this works wonders with no knee problems . Just a thought. The training you mention is more like HIT training which also is good for fat loss but more agressive and maybe more stressful on the joints.

I hate the treadmill. I have semi flat feet so I sound like a freaking clydesdale when I am on it. I stick with either the Expresso bike or eliptical.

OK we are here on this forum because of our age.
lets face it we are old. but not to old to get some good exercises. at our age we should listen to our bodies. Mystirio your body is telling you something is wrong. Running is hard on our bodies. wether on a tread mill with shock absorbtion or on concrete. either way it is hard on us. try moving to a bike or eliptical trainer stair master of a rowing mechine or anything that does not have an impct while moving. all of he above a will increase your heart rate. if you still have knee pain get back to us and let us know.

in another thread papa Smurf suggested taking one teaspoon of ground ginger mixed with juice or some kind of drink, it really works wonders. i was at my chiropractor yesterday and he showed me a book to read about ginger, so he also agrees that ginger can help with joint pain. I walk 60 minutes every day on an empty stomach and getting great results, no need to run to loose fat. And like Kaju said, don't push your body beyond what it can handle, you will for sure injure your self, and i am speaking from experience. good luck with your adventure...

Guys, I really cant say enough about ground ginger root! This stuff has really helped me.
I have a container at work so I can take it with my morning coffee. I found out (the hard way) that I also have to keep some at home as well. Not taking it over the weekend was letting my hip pain creep back in, and thats even being on this current cycle of Deca .
The Deca helps my shoulders, but only the ginger has helped my hip. Dont know why, and dont really care............
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

me too, and if its too hard to swallow with coffee or juice, then buy empty capsules fill in the right amount and take them. my wife has sciatica problem, I did this for here and she got some relief the first try. so I’ll continue using it and see what happens.
thanks again Papa for the advise...

Yes it's a good idea to switch up on the cardio, alternate days of running and maybe eliptical. I always do a 45min. cardio day on my off lift days or every other day.
