    5x5 workout?

After 15 years of not lifting weights I started again about 2 months ago. After a couple of weeks of soreness, I am wondering if lifting heavy, using the 5x5 system is best for someone over 40? I was thinking to put on muscle using core muscle workouts would be the best- any input would be great. Thanks.

I think that is fine but don't stay on it all the time. Mix it up one week do 15 reps, then 8 reps then do your 5x5. Keep your body guessing and take some time from the stresses of 5x5.

Us olds much watch for the injuries caused by going heavy. I ve just finished DC training ,made some good gains along with some good injuries which i am dealing with now. Good for a change but not good all the time!

Yea, that's probly a good idea, I used to lift heavy when I was in my 20's for sports. I have notices pain in my elbows, it's hard to curl. That's the only pain I seem to have. I started squats really light to build up joints (been adding 5lbs. each workout). I feel alot better since I've been lifting though. I lift every other day, jog on my off days. Thanks for the input...
