Opinions on how important is protein supp.
I never use protein suppliments, and I was wondering if anyone has had experience using vs. not using a protein suppliment during a cycle. I'm one of the lucky ones in that I never get full during the day. My diet is very good and I get plenty of proyein in with meats and fish, but I'm wondering if it would help my gains by taking some protein at odd hours or in between meals. As always thanks bros!

Well I would post your diet up in the diet forum so we can see if you are really getting enough etc. But I would NEVER be without my shakes, infact I always have two bags just incase anything happens. After workout you want something fast absorbing to get into your system asap. A shake is y our best friend PWO.

You don't even have a protein shake PWO? It's gonna take longer for your body to digest and absorb whole food that it is protein powder. I'm no advocate of protein powder but I always have one PWO and another about an hour later with my whole food meal. Your diet should revolve around them, but they should be included in every diet, IMO.

Thanks Bino, unfortunately I'm a lazy S.O.B. and I can't post my diet now. HYPOTHETICALY, if someone's diet was in check, got about 350-400g protein/day and about 4200-4800 cals/day, would a shake really help much? I'm 5'11 213lbs. a liberal 12%bf

I rarely use supplements when wholefoods are available. No I don't think they are necessary.

I drink about 100 grams of protien daily. I don't eat like a horse and am concerned more about trying to stay down around the 210 level. Your
body needs something like 21 amino acids to make muscle. Most protien
drinks have 18 or 19.

i dont exactly agree with that logic UFA. I do think though that you can manage without the shakes but for me they make life easier. recovery drink is pretty good to have but other than that they are not necessary IMO. example from real lifE: I was in prison for a year and we were not allowed to have any supplements there. I only ate regular food and then cottage cheese, tuna and such bought from the cantina. I weighed 190 lbs before prison and 260 lbs after. I did gain plenty of fat too but I gained better than ever in my life. AND I was natty. Then I got out and bought all kinds of supplements and I completely plateaud. Many reasons could explain that but my point is that supplements can help but they are not miracle workers and if u work hard enough u can survive without them.

IF your diet is in check I would still have the PWO shake because your body is the most absorbant at that time. Protein powder will be the fastest way to supply the needs of your body at that certain time.

well, if you're eating enough, i find it hard to believe you're never full? when bulking, not only am i full almost all the time, but half the day i'm nauseous from eating so much. if you know you can make gains off the diet you're on and you really aren't full ever, you must be very lucky. i would be very curious to see what your diets like, but back to your question in here...
though i don't think protein supplementation is necessary, i do think it's a good idea. if you buy from online stores (we have a sponsor right here on this site that has really good prices), not only can you get high quality whey proteins that will be superior to the proteins found in most foods you would normally eat, but the price of whey protein proportionately is cheaper than buying that much food containing the same protein. i also buy weight gainer (for pwo) for the same reasoning. the amount the gainer costs me is at most 1/4 of the price compared to the amount of food i'd need to buy to get those same calories.
i would suggest you give it a shot and if you don't notice a difference with adding whey into your diet, just switch back. for me personally, it makes my life a lot easier as far as keeping my protein intake up there, not to mention the above-mentioned cost and quality aspects of it.
