    leg press competition

First of all, I have never really used the heavier weights w/legs before. I have always used moderate weight and proper form due to passed knee/ankles injuries. Last night I walked into the gym and they were getting ready to start a verticle leg press competition. The winner would be the one who pressed the highest % of bodyweight multiplied by the reps that he did with this weight. 24 guys signed up and I figured, what the hell. I was 187lbs, I am cutting now. I went 22nd and so I knew what I had to beat. I had them put 690 lbs. on there and went to work, ended up w/56 reps. The owner was in charge of making sure that everyone did complete reps. Well I won it and received (50) muscle milks for it, woohoo. Now this was enough to win the competition, but my question to you leg vets "Was this a good lift in your eyes."

It sounds like you have a lot of local muscular endurance in your legs (along with strength of course). Someone, maybe, could have leg pressed more weight, it's just that they didn't have the muscular endurance you had.

No. In fact I was unable to walk for 20 minutes, they had to pick me up off the machine. In 1991 I participated in an IronMan contest that consisted of 16 events. One of the events was seated leg presses. You had to press 2.5 x your weight. I pressed 355 lbs(I wrestled at 126lbs, weighed around 140lbs for this) for 174 reps. I placed second in this event though, winner did 187 reps.

What really sucked is that the next day I had to do the mile run part of the competition, my time was off. I am having a hard time walking today. These high reps events have less to do with strength and more to do with your mental focus, IMO. It is just a "gut check".

Honestly, I have never max'd out on squating. All of my collegiate life I was fighting knee and ankle injuries, heavy squating was not an option. I do squat in the cage working my way up in sets to 350lbs. for 8-10reps, nothing crazy.

Seems like a poor setup (rules wise). So if i did 10 reps with 850lbs i would still lose ? thumbs down.

yes, you would. This was not a powerlifting competition. Can you do 850lbs. for 10 reps?

I don't do much of leg presses anymore since i do mostly compounds (squats, hacks, front squats etc). I remember when i was doing presses i was doing little over 18 plates total (around 810) with some little guys on there. I normally aim for around 12 reps with this.

I did squats today, 225lbs for high reps (15). When i had a spotter i use to do 325ish for heavier lifts. I don't like going super heavy without a spotter.

    I am 5'6 172lbs.
