    old style hack-squats w/ barbell

anybody ever do these? tried them out but couldnt get the form right. even with light weight i couldnt stand up straight(when going thru ROM bar wouldnt travel past behind my knees).i'm 5'9 maybe that has something to do with it.anyways its an old school exercise and supposed good one for the quads/hams alternative.

I’ve done them too, but I like the sled better. Here’s a picture.

I use to do them... they gave me a better pump than machine hacks.

Machine hacks in fact hurt my knees.

Execution: barbell held under glutes.. pressed against lower glutes. The bar does not move from this position

I place a 1/2" board under my heels.. and squat ass-to-calves.

Same here. Many of the foot plates are not long enough and place too much stress on my knee extensors.

For Ahammer: think of it as a deadlift but with the bar behind your back. The more upright torso position will increase the activation of the quadriceps. The deadlift more heavily stresses the glutes and hamstrings.
