What causes excessive gas from working out?

Well, just coming back into working out from a long lay-off (long story), but as I'm coming back into it, once again I'm getting the extra gas I used to back in the day.

I know gas is caused by bio-degredation of organic material, but is it from the high protein in the diet, or is it from the breakdown of muscle protein from workouts? Either way, what do you guys use to help and/or prevent it? Have tried beano, gas-x, and digestive enzymes, none helped at all whatsoever. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated, moreso for those around me.

Its most likely from a high intake of dietary protein.

excess carbs or protein are digested by the bacteria in your intestines. these are the good bacteria, but their by-products are anything but friendly

dear God, i know the feeling. i used to think pooting was fun, and it sounded funny, and it would make your friends have weird faces. but, ever since my *bad* protein poots started coming on, they have been freakin nasty, at least burning all my butt hair off. now i hate pooting

so does that mean i'm consuming too much carbs or protein? is there anything to at least reduce the gas that works against this kind? thanks for all the info so far.

Try a digestive aid. Maybe some yogurt or supplement with some bromelain

alright, i figured i'd try digestive enzymes since there seems to be so many out there and i can't remember which ones i had tried that didn't work last time.

i have a milk digestive enzyme and a multi digestive enzyme. gonna try these and see if it helps. seems like the gas is the worst after my workouts after i down my shake (milk, weight gainer, and whey protein), so since my next workout is tomorrow, we'll see how this works out.
