Dumbell Press only! why no Bench?

Sup bros.. Recently, I have been speaking to alot of people and they all seem to stay away from the bench press but rather only stick to dumbells as their press movements.. I had shoulder problems in the passed year and for the passed few months I have been using just DB's and have been seeing pretty good results and my shoulders werent doing to bad (thank g-d) Yesterday I worked out chest with only Flat bench followed by incline DB's and today the soreness in my shoulders is EXTREME.. kinda hurts.. its probably bc i havent been doing BP in quite a while.. I think i may just stick with DB's though.. Anybody ONLY stick with dumbells? why or why not? thanks very much bros

i use primarly all bar compound movements for mass.
if it hurts your shoulder dont go as deep .. try that..
dbs are good but no fun..

    Dumbells only for me.

One reason is that I think it ensures that each arm is doing it's equal share. With a bar, sometimes the dominant arm can do more of the work.

Honestly, a bigger reason is that I work out alone and don't want to ask anyone for a spot and don't feel like being crushed to death if I can't make a rep.

my shoulder swells up with any heavy db movements, i havent touched a dumbell heavier than 50 lbs for over 6 months, perhaps after a few years i will return to DB.
Anyways what i was getting at: dumbells hurt my shoulder, barbell doesnt

I use DBs because I hate using a spot...sometimes I use the bar as a warm up and thats about it...

I don't like flat barbell but I love incline barbell....explain that. I usually do dumbbells for flat benching but I still do barbell every now and then to change it up. On flat BB it seems to hurt my shoulder a bit

I stick to the bar simply b/c of shoulder probs and the dbs seem to aggrevate it. If not delt probs, I'd mix it up between dbs and bar

i feel dumbells so much better. i get fully stretched at the bottom and when i bring them all the way up the fully flexed/pumped feeling just feels like growth. i do switch it up every now and then though, incline smith presses feel good for me.

yea i guess it does come down to personal prefrence at the end.. its funny/weird how db's affect more peoples shoulders than barbell at times and then the opposite.. i always switch it up though after a couple of months.. maybe i will drop the weight on the bench for a few weeks..

I have had a torn rotator cuff and still use the bar for incline and flat bench with no problems.

I had a problem where one side of my body would overcompensate... leaving me with more growth on my left side... thats why i started doing DB instead of Bar... As for shoulders hurting... when you are doing flat db press... your arm (from shoulder to elbow) should not go past being parrallel with the floor... try that...

Ya same here. I feel i can not go heavy enough when benching with a barbell by myself so i do not get a good work. I also like to go to failure at least one of my sets, with the dumbells i can jsut drop them.
