Need advise on calves
Please help ive been training my calves naw for 2 years i admit i never trained them when i started 5 years ago thats landed me with a problem i got 18 inch arms and 15 and a half inch calves and wotever i do they dont seem to grow they just get ripped, has anyone been in the same sicuation and got out of it?i train them hard once or most times twice a week till i can hardly walk,im 5,10 with 34 inch legs so i have got long legs wich i guess is cousing most the problem as most people my height have 30-32 inch leg,in the last year ive gained an inch on them, ive asked loads in the gym but most dont care wot their legs look like only people who compete do but they say theyv always had good legs as its a ginetic thing,
any help pleaseLast edited by h4mer; 07-28-2006 at 04:00 PM.

Switch your calve routine from reps to heavy weight, and go back and forth like that every workout. One day go for 30 reps/set, the next workout go for 12. Also, try working them one at a time on things like seated calve extensions and standing calve raises. Not only do you need to push your bodyweight with one calve plus the added weight on your shoulder(it wont be much, maybe like 40 -50lbs on top of bodyweight) but now you have to somewhat balance with one calve at the same time which hits it in more angles. When I started training mine one at a time the results got shocking. My calves are better than some IFBB pros IMO.

check out his early posing shots, his calves were so bad compared to the rest of his body he did his posing with his lower legs in water!Last edited by mark_newcastle; 07-28-2006 at 09:22 PM.

Calves are mostly genetic , so any measurement gain you get you should feel very prowd.
I love jumping rope for my calve workouts.

My calves are a problem area also. I've put an inch on them in the past six months. I mainly go heavy and then finish off with a couple trips up and down some stairs carring a 45plate in each hand and doing 5 calf raises on each step. I get a pretty good burn from that.

The stairs have 32 steps by the way. I do 5 raises per step and go up and down twice, so thats like 640 reps.

Well, lets just all agree that those would be some big legs.

lighter weight, 50 reps for 1 set every day you go to the gym
