Morning Workouts
If I wanted to lose bodyfat could i go direct to the gym right after getting up and train on an empty stomach (minus a few supps) ??? Perhaps 45mins/weights + 20ish/cardio ? or would it be draining muscle or something. I've been going in alot lately in the morn in a multi and nok2 and have felt quite strong, been doing it on that 'empty stomach first thing in the morn' principle.
Ideas?Last edited by dboy; 08-01-2006 at 12:59 PM.

i would never workout on an empty stomach. i would do my cardio first thing in the morn on an empty stomach and then come work out later in the evening. even more important is what your eating and when you eating it. if its just five lbs you wanna lose i would make an adjustment to your diet and cardio.

Fair enough but is there any real reason why not - basically get up, pop pills and go straight to work at the gym w/in 20 mins --- just a quick protein shake or peanut butter maybe for glycogen stores --- the key is that i wanna take full advantage of the empty stomach fat burning thing and if i feel i have the energy to lift does it effect growth? thx

When you do any form of exercise with no protein available (i.e. on an empty stomach), expecially when you have been asleep for hours, you will be in a pro-catabolic state, so you will be burning away your muscle.
BUT.... it is the extent to which you will benefit from the morning cardio that is more important. Yes, your essentially promoting catabolism, but its for a short period of time and it promotes other areas. So even though you might extending the catabolic state for the 30 minutes run, as long as you get protein in there ASAP after the run you'll be fine.

What im doing right now(focuse don fatloss) is i do cardio 5 days a week first thing in the morn on an empty stomach, then on monday and thursdays i do a push pull routine in the late afternoon(mon push thurs pull )and afterwards ill jump on the bike for 20 mins. most of the time doing cardio and weights in the same workout is a no no, but if ur main concern is fatloss then this will do. its been very effective. If you have tim, which most peopl dont unless they have a cardio machine in their house, is do cardio in the morn 7 days a week then go to the gym later on for weights

In all honesty, Swolecat would probably be the best information on this topic.

the answer to the question in NO, never ever do you live on an empty stomach, when you wake up your glucose is depleted, dry, empty. OK. its ok if you want to do morning cardio, but never ever lift on empty tank. also if you wanna knock both out at once do a 90 min workout like this..
60Mins/weight/speedtraining./
30min/cardio.
of course nutrtuion will play a big roll in your results.
