The risk versus benefit of doing that in my opinion is not worth it at all. You have to remember that when you do chest exercises your shoulders get a pretty good workout on there own. Second most of the musculature of the shoulder is for stablizing purposes and preventing the dislocation of the ball of the humorous from the glenoid capsule, the scapula is also part of the stability of the shoulder. Combine intense chest workouts with a shoulder workout and you cause all the little muscles (rotator muscles) to become fatigued. Your pecs and traps and delts can take a lot more exercise per bout than your small muscles of the rotator cuff. If you have fatigued muscles that reduces there contractile performance and greatly increases the chance of injury. I say increase the chance of injury that doesnt mean everyone who does this practice will get injured. Cause we all know somebody that does this and have no problems. But to me its really not worth the risk to get injured.

You can do this but you wont be able to handle very much volume for either group.
maybe like three exercises for chest and probably two for shoulders.
ive tried to do this and my shoulders get worn out real quick.
It does offer you an extra day per se for a differnt group that may be lagging though.

I have tried this split in the past and although I noticed little or no difference in shoulder development, I was prone to the type of small muscle injury metioned in this thread, not a great deal but enough to change the split.

did someone mention over training? The shoulders get a good workout on chest days for sure. I work chest on Mon, and that usually cover the front deltoid really well. I do arms on Fri and I focus on rear delts laterals and 1 press exercise there and it seems to giving me good progress.

I've done chest and shoulders on the same day, but I had no choice because of work schedule. I wouldn't really recommend it especially if one of the bodypart is a laggin' bodypart.

I have tried doing shoulders and chest on the same day and it really doesn't seem worth it. I didn't see any difference in shoulder size/strength, and my workout usually sucked. Try it and see if you like it tho, but chances are you won't do it more than once.

Well I'm always one to be an odd man out. I've worked chest, shoulders, and triceps on the same day for quite a few years and have had good success with it.
