how painful are deadlifts to u

I've been goin deadlifts for a while now, and i think its unique in that
i feel my lower back, stiffen up almost immediately, and its kinda painful as well

does anybody else experience this immediately after doing sets of deadlifts?

    i pyramid up
10, 8 , 6, ---then return to same way on did on 1st set

    so its three working sets

and i was just curious to the level of stiffness and pain other ppl felt while doing deadlifts

I get the same thing but i lift the heaviest weight i can for 4-6. I tend to drop the weight then slowly come up.

    BTW
Why would you return to lighter weight for your last set ?

how often do you do deadlifts and is it stiff leg? maybe you should take it out of your next routine then come back to it.

I have also found that doing really heavy rack deads helps a lot when returning back to full deads.

They should but i know what he is talking about. When i lay that last rep down upon straighting my back from the deadlift position the lower back is as tight as a 18 year old virgin (speaking in laymen terms).

i do three working sets, and return to the 1st set's weight, really just to focus on form, instead of pyramiding up for 4 entire sets, kinda too much for me

i think i know what your saying too, i get the same thing. i hate deads, love em for how great of an excersise they are and they really get me sweating and my heart pumping, but i always seem to dread doing them. i always feel like my form isnt as good as i want it to be too, im always adjusting my positioning slightly to try to get the best burn i can, and whenever i do it varies how much that lower back stiffness hits me

Everybody I've talked to says its normal to get the stiff/pumped lower back. I just accept it now. Although I do notice some days its better or worse. I think it depends on how rested I am the night before. I go through a mental checklist for like 4 minutes before doing them.

Yeah man it's normal, I'll never forget when I first started doing them and hit 225 for 10 reps and puked lol. Lower back pumps seem to die down the more you do them.

    Back day IS deadlifts!

I used to get really stiff but after you do them for a year or two it goes away, at least for me.

I like to do squats first, then deads that's about it for leg/lower back day for me (haven't use a belt or wrist straps for either since day one) just chalk up my grip. Been doing this 2x a week recently (worried if this is too much) and the weights are doing good, 12 rep, 10, 8, 6, 6, ~3 for deads.

I get it about every other deadlift w/o. When it happens, I go heavy and quick, 4-6 reps. There is a difference between pains, and I get the bad pain from deadlifts. When this happens, I can not even stand up straight without a grimmese and a keel over for a day or 2. I tend to revert back to heavy bent over rows until I feel good again. There is no true substitue for deads, but heavy rows comes very close. Just my 2cents. Good luck to all of you that endure this awful pain, we fight it together

I used to go real heavy on deads, and go to the floor, but then i ended up with two protruding discs in my lower back, and now i just do rack deads with a plate on each side only, and i go very slow and focus on the best form i can do. its pretty lame, but my lower back pumps kick ass, and it makes me wonder if this is more beneficial to my lower back. It certainly isn't in the full body aspect. With every rep, i feel a pinch in my lower back, so deadlifts are annoying to me, but i love them too much.
