1Rm and 10Rm pretty close :S
hello
I play rugby, meaning that fitness being is my biggest asset to my all round athletic performance with strength being secondary. I have been resistance training for about a year now.0 cycle experience. One thing i have noticed when looking at some of the strength and muscle building techniques posted on this and other sites is that people say use 85-90 percent for max str training or lower weights (60-65percent at 8-12 reps) for other types (HST etc). Please keep in mind I am speaking very generally about the previously mentioned techniques as i dont have the time to write exactly what i mean but i think most of you get the idea.
My problem is that my maximum bench is about 105-110kg yet i can do 3 sets of 80 with 10 reps relatively easily.does this mean i have a low 1rm or a high 10rm (comparatively speaking, I realise compaired to most of you my bench is up to F.A) and what can i do to fix this or improove on it?Also, doing sets at 60percent of my 1rm doesnt really seem to really work or work me hard enough.
Constructive feedback welcome

I'm a rugby player best thing I find when I hit a plato in bench is use 80% of my 1rm for sets of 10 if you only manage 8 then give yourself 15-20secs then get back down and get 2reps up. on the 3rd set you may need 3attempts 2 complete the set but thats fine. I only do this for 3 weeks than I go back to sets of ten
