As much as I despise fasted cardio due to it's effect in my running pace I have moved to doing it more regular. My question is, what should my nutrition before and after look like as well as timing. Currently I am taking bcaa's prior to and immediately after and eat my breakfast about 30 minutes after. Should I be eating quicker after or later? Also, any suggestions in supplements/nutrition prior to running to protect lbm?

I personally just wake up.... take some fatburner called 'black wall' then hit the gym for an hour of cardio. Right when I get home I have a shake... isopure isolate 50g protein with glycomaize, 1 banana, glutamine and ice/water Then I eat a meal 45 minutes after that but I also am worried about getting in a catabolic state so the morning cardio on an empty stomach is scarying me... I don't run but I will do stairs 25 mins, incline walking 15 and x-trainer for 15. anyway hope someone can help you out!

As far as eating afterwards, you've got about a 45 minutes window. So eating 30 minutes after is just fine. This I am sure of.

As far as protecting lbm, there's nothing that you can take right before to protect your lbm. You'd need to have something in your system (i.e. long term use) in order to protect your lbm. This, is just my opinion

I've been back and forth on this as well and was hoping this thread would get more responses.

I thought it might have gotten more responses as well. I half question fasted cardio anyhow. I don't get near as good of runs in fasted. And if im catabolic doing it, I wonder if I am doing more harm than good.

It's supposed to be a great way to lose body fat. I've done it myself for months while cutting. I've read both sides of fence on this, some say you lose muscle and it not a good idea and some say its the best way to lose body fat. I've also read that it is good to take some protein in before cardio so its not totally fasted. You may want to throw the question up in the diet section and see if you get more hits.

Someone put it to me this way back a long time ago down in Houston, Texas

    he said

"ya either cuttin, or ya bulkin"

you either gaining weight or losing it..gaining weight your gaining fat and muscle, losing weight you are losing fat and muscle.

deal with it accordingly. fasted cardio is fine, count your calories and keep em at a decent level...eat your simplest sugars in the AM after your cardio and then gradually throughout the day eat less refine and eventually cut the sugars out so you can wake up nice and sugar hunger.

eating afterwards i would eat as soon as possible...don't like..have a sandwich ready on the treadmill or anything but sure, do your thing get home, cook a meal, and eat. thats okay..if you have a 45 min window and you eat 46 min after you got done is your window closed? absolutely not.

    just listen to your body.

Thanks for the responses. I will continue doing it, but sure struggle with the runs. While I will never be a fast runner by any means, the difference between running carb loaded and fasted is quite noticeable. Adding that much time to a 5 mile run just pains me. I guess I can look forward to a bulking cycle coming up in a few weeks and enjoy the fact that I am not running fasted, or for that matter, at all ;-)
