I just injured myself at the gym :(
I was doing squats. I did my usual warm up first and I was feeling some pain and tightness in my inner thigh. (The Adductor muscle???)
My second set of squats I went heavier and it didn't bother me as much, I was able to go deep.
My 3rd set of squats I went HEAVY and deep and I could feel some pain/tightness there when I went really deep.
My 4th set of squats I dropped some of the weight so I could do them nice and slow with good form. Since I wasn't feeling pain I decided to go deep and at the bottom of my squat I felt a sharp pain, my right leg buckled out then popped back in and heard a sound like velco tearing.
I was in LOTS of pain. I had to stop and laid back on a bench. I was in so much pain I couldn't sit up. My training partner had to help me up. It's small and high in my groin area. I don't feel pain running all the way down my inner thigh. My training partner is a doctor and he checked for a hernia and it's not a hernia. He said it may be a partial tear but he couldn't tell and I should go see someone.
I waited about 15 mins and I was able to get up walk around and keep working legs. I was able to do leg extensions without feeling pain and I was able to train calves. Then I limped home.
Did I pull or tear the abductor muscle? I was planning to do a show in 12 weeks.Last edited by Carlos_E; 08-17-2004 at 06:54 PM.

I did try doing hack squats with my feet together and I didn't feel pain. Maybe if I skip legs one week then the following week stay away from free squats and just do hack squats, front squats and leg extensions. I could do that to prep for the show.

bro, you probably just strained a muscle out. was any part of your leg sore when you went into the gym? maybe you overstretched. if i spend more than 10 seconds stretching out my pec, it WILL leave to a pec strain. ive strained my pec ALOT bro. its very frustrating, but i just iced the spot i strained out and gave it about 10 days to rest. if your not seeing anY bruising or swelling, then you have nothing to worry about.

also, you probably already know this, but keep off any sort of stretching or light warm ups, of the area thats strained as well. your just gonna end up aggravating it more.
this might be off topic but, when i was 2 weeks untill my state meet in 2002, in powerlifting, i strained my pec. i was on my toes and thought i was gonna lose my meet, because i would come back with a weak bench. lucky for me, my chest healed up a week before, and i came back strong and crushed. keep your head in the game bro.Last edited by itsallmental; 08-17-2004 at 07:22 PM.

Having tore a quad before, I doubt you would have been able to continue with your workout if it was a full tear. Your training partner's right though, you should go see somebody.
Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

so... how heavy is HEAVY? ... :P
DOesnt sound like you tore anything, maybe you strained your abductor. When you squat.. does your knees go out in order for you to get in that "pocket" ? If you do, try and keep your knees straight ahead.. and close your stance a little more, your feet are to wide and your focusing to much on abudtors. (sumo squats)

On my 3rd set when I was at the bottom my right leg, (again the right leg) wobbled, I felt a sharp pain, felt dizzy and fell over. My training partner said I passed out. I laid down on a bench and rested for a bit then got up, did another set of lunges, then hack squats, leg extensions and calves. My friends tell me I'm the only person they know that passes out then finishes their leg workout.

Sounds like you might be lacking in the abductor region. Do you have the abductor machines in your gym? Some people call the them the girl machines... but when i get on them they shut up... lol
Ya ive passed out donig legs before... i was doing 60 reps sets on hack squats... and BAM.. fell over and layed there for a little I was told and i got back up and finished my leg workout. HARDCORE BROTHA!

did it feel like someone hit your muscle with a wet towel?? If so probably a tear. Also you have to see how it bruises.. If no HUGE black and blues probably not a tear. If you finished workout i doubt it was a tear. good luck buddy

Bro the sound of velco tearing is the classic sound of
a muscle tear... That's the exact sound I heard when
I torn my right shoulder to hell... I'd get a MRI asap to
see how bad you might have torn something...

I do them with hamstrings also.. dang. hehe
Maybe next time squats and lunges come up warm up your abductors first. Ya, ive outgrown parts of my gym also... I have people stand on the equipment now for me.. haha

sounds like what happen to me a few months ago. Just keep an eye on it and look for bruising. I would lay off legs for a week or at least see how you feel untill next leg day.

HE WAS TOTALLY COOL ABOUT IT. No steroid is bad lecture at all! He said he has several patients who "use." He said when you use steroids you have to remember that your muscles grow faster than tendons so you have to do exercises in the gym that will strengthen your tendons as well as muscles. Then he gave me a few workout tips. I let him know I want to compete in a show in 12 weeks so he said he's going to do whatever he can to get me rehabbed quickly. I have physical therapy 3 times a week for the next 6 weeks along with ultra sound and massage. Yes, someone will be massaging my groin... Should be interesting. He also said I can train my legs in the gym but if I feel any pain or strain in that area I have to STOP. He said if I try and ignore the pain I'm just going to injure myself further and make the entire situation worse.Last edited by Carlos_E; 08-19-2004 at 07:05 AM.

If your body responds anywhere near as good as mine to ultra sound treatments.. you will be very happy with the rehab...
It is like magic, and works very quickly..
I was able to avoid knee surgery because of that theropy..
good luck
