Well, tonight, he finally got his.
There's this kid that works out at my gym. He's in ROTC, about 6'2 and 200 lbs or so. He's one of those guys that works out his ego instead of his muscles. Every week i see him in there, benching away, ALWAYS with a spotter, starting around 185 lbs. I've never seen him lift anything without one. Usually he'll keep working up, until his spotter is doing deadlifts while he assists. The most i had seen him "try" (or his spotter i should say) up until this night was 365, ass high off the bench, spotter gasping for breath and pulling with all his might.
Anyway, tonight this idiot decides it's a good idea to go for 405 after he "hits" his single of 345. The spotter lines up and lifts... it goes down alright with a heavy guide. They start to lift, and get around 4 inches up before it comes crashing back down. He's stuck screaming under 400 lbs, unable to move or breath. I walked over and pulled 2 plates off the near side and the other side crashed down. The emt's from upstairs came down and took a look at him, then they sent him to the hospital.
Personally, i was glad to see him go. Life is great when people get what's coming to them.

Thats funny as hell, that sucks to be that dude.. I doubt he will ever be back to that gym.. Those tools make me giggle.. Doesn't anyone else almost panic when they see inexperienced kids lift heavy, like you want to save them a trip to the hospital? I can't be the only one.. Chris i hope you laughed uncontrolably while he was being crushed!!!!

Well when you go from 345 to 405 that should tell you he is an idiot right there.
you should always take no more than 25-30lb jumps when benching...........

When a someone acts like a dumbass its funny and hard not to laugh but when they inevitably hurt themselves I feel sorry for them. Hopefully this kid isn't too messed up from this incident and LEARNS from his mistake, comes back to the gym and trains intelligently.

405 is a lot of weight. Even with a spotter, I wouldnt try even 350.
I love people on here who try to join the bull**** group saying they bench 350 like it is nothing. Right..

i remember when I was doing a burn out set on decline with 135 when I was 16 and I thought i could get 1 more rep and I got stuck and some woman saw me trying to get it off me and had to yank it off....Oh man, that was embarassing Funny though...there are actually these tool bags at my gym who try to compete with my work out partner and I...It is so funny how the guy struggles to rep 225 and then throws 275 on because we did it, while his poor work out partner gets more of a work out than he did in the name of ego...thinks he is a bad ass since he is taking juice...heard he tried selling 20cc of deca for 380...i shook my head..what a tool just like CA in the gym last night...sorry you had your friend spot you..hope he can work out without you now that you are side lined from injury
