For the steak a nice red wine cabernet or merlot

well, i would have liked to get back here to respond to your feedback earlier, but im leaving in like 30 min. anyways, here is the website of the restaurant which has a wine list and menu. www.bouchon.net if anyone cares to take the time to look, i would greatly appreciate it. rather than get two different bottles of wine, is there a acceptable red to go with the fish? or should i attempt to accomodate her decision with teh fish with a more compatible meal? or better yet, should i just ask the waiter for wine advice?

It depends what you are eating. there are many different types of wine depends on the taste and your palat. Merlot is dry but one that I like. Cabarnet Sauvignon is popular that many enjoy. My favorite is Chianti(Italy). One of my top wines is a Rose wine called Petale de Rose(France). Type of wine you can drink during the day, slightly chilled around 15 celsius and chicks totally enjoy as well, I've think Ive given that to every date I went on, they really enjoy. With some Camembert, Brie or Oka cheese
Porto or Port wine is good as well but a little more expensive. I can go on and on but it depends on the food.

Let me know your price range and I'll check it out
Also if you dont want to get two bottle's of wine I would order some kind of fish or chicken for your self and just get a bottle of chardonnay
White wine will go with chicken or fish

Don't order the Dom Perigon; it will spoil them. I've made that mistake
hundreds of times.

I like a good Merlot too.......the old white with fish......red with steak......the guideline isn't so strict nowdays........A nice Beaujolais Village is a good choice that would probably go with both........just don't pour it over ice

Ordering wine is very easy. The more it costs the better it is. I prefer French
or Italian. It does not give me hang-over or headache. California is overpriced
and the added perservatives give me headache.

good rule of thumb...... red wines go with darker meats like beef, and red sauces on pasta. white whine goes with chicken, fish, oil based pasta sauces, and some pork although some will say red and pork is perfectly fine.
personally i like red wine and id drink it with whatever i was served, i dont really care for white wines. but if you want to know the "rule" there they are. as far as prices, im going to have to disagree with Ufa. ive had 12 dollar wines that id choose over 70+ dollar bottles. many nice restaraunts have a very suitable house wine that most will enjoy. Or you can be like me and my dad and make your own and get REAALLLY housed, because our home made wine has been known to make people hallucinate.
