Lol sounds like me...I had a lot of friends growing up who got brand new 3-series bemers for their b-days..it was kind of like the rich person thing to do for your kids around here, as there were at least 4 or 5 of them in the student lot when I was in high school...Today a lot of these upper class kids I grew up with are addicted to oxycontin or strung out on some other drug, basically being **** ups and failing out of school all the while their parents still foot the 30grand a year tuition bills. Although my educations being payed for, I chose the cheapest routes, community college to a university thats local and does not require me to live on campus. I have some people I know comment that I'm missing out on 'the experience' of being away in a dorm. I dont know, thats just not me and I could really care less about that when I get out of school and saved 20 or 30g's over my 7 year stint in college&graduate school.

My father is wealthy, I grew up in a town of cake eaters. But will never consider myself a cake eater. I have worked and worked for my father my entire life. He has put his children through college, but that's where it stops.

it is a problem.. the issue is with so many getting higher educations, the value of that education continues to go up..

it's not a parents job to spend $100,000 for a child to go to school, get drunk, and continue on..

for parents that have the finacial ability, that's great.. but it's not the parents job to provide a higher education..

people that earn thier own way are more well adjusted, and goal oriented..

There are million and one ways to raise well adjusted responsible kids. For every kid that you think has it 'easy' by having their parents pay for school, there are just as many folk who took 10 years to finish a 2 year degree or even worse yet dropped out because of diff life obstacles.

To me I view it as a paying it forward type deal. My parents do pretty well and supported me as long as I was progressing forward. I went to a pretty good school in GA and whatever my loans/grants and scholarship money didn't pay they took care off. I plan on doing the same for my kids when they reach 18. Honestly...they should have responisibility down pat once they hit 18 so why not help them with their education and allow them to conc for four year, as long as they bringing home grades. They have the rest of their lives to pay bills.

My parent's philosophy: As long as I'm in college and making good grades they'll take care of the rest.

And they do...I don't pay for anything--gas, groceries, car, insurance, rent, food...I'll probably be completely f*cked when I've graduated and find myself in the real world but at least I'll be able to milk it for another 4 years. (1 more college, 3 grad school) But I'm not unappreciative.

MoneyAddyct, my parents are the exact same way....if I make my grades, they've got me 100%, but recently my grades have been going down, but I stay out of trouble, so they still back me.....I love my folks....
