whats a good LCD flat panel tv

I only want to spend about 1500 on a new tv. I found some that are pretty cheap,
a 42 in 1080i 720p visio lcd flat panel at costco for 1300
and also found 42 in poloroid lcd for 1600, 1080p

anyone know of a good model in that range, needed especially for ps3.

I would be looking at either LG or Samsung. I have a nice LG HD for my 360, very happy with it, it is in your price range.

Even though visio is an off brand they still have a great picture. A buddy of mine got a 50 inch visio plasma for around 1500. It doesnt beat my 50 inch pioneer plasma, though!

Do you need to have a LCD/Plasma, or could you fit a DLP?

DLP is much cheaper, and still displays a nice picture.

The Vizio is a good choice, 42" 1080i @ $1200.00(plazma or lcd) Or you can get a westinghouse 42 1080p for around $1800.00. 1080p is the latest and greatest but a 1080i is the most common format used. Plazma life has extended to about 60,000 hours with no burn in.

I have a sony vega LCD, with plasma once the bulb burns out you have to replace the whole TV, on and LCD you can replace the bulb, also plasma might not project true blacks, as well as it can cause a burning of an image on the screen. Out of DLP, LCD, and plasma, I like LCD the best.

From what I am reading the Vizio is getting very good reviews for the price range. Go with the Visio.

Yep. Cnet.com gives them pretty damn good reviews even compared to many TV's that are "name brand" and a lot more expensive.

Sony is bitching about Vizio and Westinghouse selling LCDs at such a low price. They said they're undercutting the market. Forcing prices down to soon.

I have to disagree with this. First off, Plasmas have a layer of gas that eventually wears out not a bulb. And newer Plasmas last much longer than the original ones do/did and the burn in issue is basically non-existent on the newer models. As far as blacks, that all depends on the model. I was a huge fan of LCD and went to buy one but was pointed at a Panasonic Plasma model, after much research I went with the Plasma. Picture is just amazing and none of the LCDs I looked at came close.
