Smacking weights together?
Alright, what's the consensus on smacking the dumbells together at the top of a rep? Personally I think it is weak. The people doing this are the same guys throwing the weights on the ground to draw attention and get noticed.

how are you asking for a consensus when its obvoius there is not benefit to it?

Smacking the weights at releives the tension on your muscle which is not what you are aiming for.
I do it if im struggling but normally I try my best not to let them touch.

I'm guessing you mean when your doing shoulder presses, but i have done it. It was more of a habit for me. It didnt take much if any pressure off my lifts.

i dont do it, a lot of guys do it obnoxiously to show they can complete a rep, i dont see any point of it though

its bound to happen on certain exercises, but when i guy does 12 reps and bangs them together every rep, its kinda annoying.

why.. would the weights even touch?
i dont even bring them together when doingflys.. constant tension far more effective.

Like stated in the other post (dropping weights):

I put my headphones, workout and leave. Who cares what other people are doing

I don't "smack" the weights together, but I definately make them touch. However the touch is a very slight touch, not to mention we have rubberized dumbells.

sometimes i'll bring them together during a squeeze at the top of a rep but never abnoxiously... you don't know anyway cause they're rubber.

You know what you should do is just buy a bowflex and workout at home because your paying way to much mind to what other people are doing.
let them do their thing and you do yours.

i always smack the weights together at the top of my rep it keeps me balanced and i know im getting a full ROM. i never even thought of it as something that draws attention...for me its just what works/feels right.

for me its all about power and control.
power up the weights with full effort but at the same time control the weight dont let it control you.
so no i tend not to smack the weights around so much.

It would be very rare for me to allow the weights to bang together. I do make them touch though but without making a sound.......if it rings at all then the rep isn't counted. Contracting my muscles as hard as I can while controlling the weight is such a manner means I do not let those weights bang........I haven't the energy to make up a rep nor do I want to prolong my time in the gym.

2. clinking weights takes the stress away from muscle mass
3. clinking weights changes the range of motion for the muscles......this range is inferior to the range obtained by not clinking the weights
to sum it up, clinking the weights is bullshit no matter how you look at it

Screw smacking weights. It's that one stupid moron who thinks he's the toughest at the gym and always goes "URRAGH!!!!", "URRRAGH!!" at the top of his lungs at the end of every rep that I hate....
