    C5 Corvette.
    With 512 rear wheel horsepower.
That runs high 10's in the quarter mile.
And costs less than my motorcycle to insure.
    And gets 30mpg.

What more could you ask for?

Its true Ruhl my SS gets 28.5 mpg, the vettes are lighter and more aerodynamic. Look it up on the vette boards, well documented. We are talking about the M6 with stock gearing and on the highway.

No, that wasnt on C5 generation engines. Its also not on C6 (LS3) vettes. It is on the L99 engine version of the 2010 1SS and 2SS automatic camaro's, Along with L76 engine automatic Pontiac G8's. Then most of the 6.0L full size trucks have it as well, (L92 engine ect)

EFI my friend, along with power adders (turbo, and superchargers) and nitrous. My SS has a centrifugal supercharger on it. It puts down 520 at the wheels but develops little to no boost at idle and only minimal boost at cruising RPMs if any. Which means no additional fuel has to be added to the air fuel mixture. Only when the engine is at about 75% throttle does the supercharger make any boost. Couple that with a less restrictive exhaust and intake system along with a good dyno tune and you got a much more efficient running engine. The factory tunes are really very crappy and are pretty much set to keep the EPA happy, much like on diesel trucks.

that makes sense i guess...still....insane to me to think about getting a consistent 30mpg out of a pretty big displacement 8 cylinder

Sorry its actually a 6.2 liter, the L92. The vortec 6L in 2500 GMC trucks is has variable valve timing.

Thats the beauty of fuel injection. The typical fuel pressure of a EFI car is around 60PSI. On older style carbureted engine the fuel pressure is around 6 psi if I remember right. With the fuel injectors and the fuel being at such high pressure in EFI. The fuel is atomized to a much greater extent than that of a carb style fuel system. It basically causes more fuel to be exposed to oxygen in the combustion chamber thus causing a more efficient burn requiring less fuel to power the motor. Along with the fuel being added at a much more specific time in the piston cycle due to electronic control.
