My mom goes to church everyday twice a day, god bless her.
I haven't gone to church since 2003. I always feel like I'm part of a group I never joined.

i disagree for a few reasons:
one -it is a great place to raise kids (not flaming but i am speaking of non-catholic churches - no ill will ment)
two - great mentorship
three -great fellowship
four -it is a good checks and ballance of where you are in you spirtual life
five -great to hear the worship and singing
six -great to hear the preaching and different subjects that cause me to dwell deeper in to my bible
seven -great food
eight -down to earth people, who struggle like i do through life and i can go the a leader and get his opinion on something in a non judgmental way

Understood. But don't confuse salvation with "mass delusion". Fact is, there's a better than average chance that you store most, if not all, of your money in a bank. Why? Because it's safe and it's most likely recoverable in such a place. And while I respect you (even though I don't know you) and your opinion, you have more faith than you'll ever admit to. How do I know this? Well, you work out I assume. Which leads you to this board. And therefore, you have faith that your effort in the gym and what you eat will lead you to what you desire in your physical attributes. Some might say that it's hard work that results in such achievements and that's completely true. But in reality, you've been given the ability in life. Something that you didn't work for. Appreciate it. Love it. And most importantly....share it.

My religion is bodybuilding therefore my church must be the gym. So yes I have been 4 times this week. Also after my last kick ass session in the church I actually saw god he was staring back at me in the mirror.

hummm... i am def not confused about the Lord, dont take that the wrong way - i still want to grow in His knowledge
mass delusion - did you used to go to catholic church? sounds like you may
at my church when you leave you say " cool now i have another tool to use to help my self through life, or wow, that really made sence!! or humm, never thought of it that way and i go home and study the message that was preached...
never, go to get strenght from the church just to get knowledge of Christ and how to apply that to life.

i realize you are just trying to be funny, i hope you were just trying to be funny... you body is a temple and you should take the best care of it you can, now after i said that, the two other parts that need attention (for all of us) in your mind - like reading and such, and your soul,
working out is a must but you need to be ballanced body, soul, and spirit... and i am not talking new age crap (if that is flamine against new age - oops sorry) but, our walk with christ is not just knowing the bible, but how to relate it to others so that it is interesting and challenging.
so look in to the mirror next time and talk to God - just ask him for salvation

Nope. But I hope to make it this week. It'll be about a year or so for me... Feel like I'm the prodigal son.
Anyone ever read any of Brian McLaren's books?

Haven't gone in about 15 years. I can't come to understand why I would go to church to practice something I can do at home. I feel that I am looked down upon by other members of the church because I refuse to pay money for something that is supposed to be free. Church is a place that makes me feel unwanted and to put it bluntly, an asshole. I don't need it.

Wow never thought I'd see a thread like this on this board.
Do I go to church? Yep just went last night with my wife to an awesome seminar the lead pastors are putting on called marriage on the rock. It's a 5 week program designed for married folks, and people thinking of getting married. Our pastors do all kinds of cool stuff to help out the congregation we just recently finished up a weds night leadership program based on John Maxwell's 21 irrefutable laws of leadership.
My church is an assemblies of God affiliate with about 2500 members. Our Pastor is one of the greatest people I have ever met. He is intelligent, dead to self, and only does things for the Glory of God. Our church has grown leaps and bounds and he doesn't beg for money but let's God take care of the finances. He is the real deal.
I'm also on the security team which is pretty cool.
My testimony is crazy to say the least but God has really helped me through some things especially this pat year.
I'm also a firm believer in it's not what you do to impress other people in the church it's what you do when noone is looking that counts!!

Church isn't a requirement to get into heaven

It's been a while. I used to play the organ/piano for a few congregations, was a sunday school teacher for a while, and sang in the choir in this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytHin...eature=related
almost went to a seminary, but I got kicked out of one church for being gay, and another seminary in Dallas wouldn't enroll me because they didn't like the (gay) church I attended.
After seeing Christianity used and abused for political purposes, and after being denounced from most church pulpits, and after reading and re-reading the Bible, I eventually decided that the christian religion wasn't for me.Last edited by Tock; 02-06-2009 at 02:25 AM.
