Top 10 Reasons Gay Marriage is "Wrong"
I found this floating around facebook that some chick posted. So just for the record, this is not mine. Im actually for everyone having rights. Just wanted to see what others had to say regarding these 10...
1) Being gay is not natural. Real people always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in the world.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans

Gay marriage has been held back for one reason and one reason only: religion .

Am I the only one who sees the sarcasm in this? The author is obviously making fun of people who actually hold those opinions.

DSM, would you be happy if they allowed it but didn't call it a "Marriage", but more a legal union?
It seems that the biggest issue is attaching the "Religious" aspect to it.
But I believe two people who are in love and living together SHOULD have every legal rights as any MARRIED couple.
SO, take away the religious connotations and just let it be a legally binding union with all the benefits .
what do you think?

I think the word "marriage" doesn't belong to anyone. Just as some churches would be willing to marry same-sex couples so should they be able to call themselves "married". We don't all have to accept YOUR religion.

Yup, but we are the only state where your rights have always been protected. The other states had to pass legislation to legalize gay marriage. Quite the opposite here. People tried to pass legislation to ban gay marriage and the state supreme court found it to be in violation of the state constitution. To ever ban gay marriage here would require an amendment to our constitution, so your rights are a little firmer.

ok please don't fry me if i'm wrong.. but
I heard from a teacher once that one of the major reasons gay marriage was not made legal was they worried friends would get married just to collect tax breaks or health insurance...
is there any truth to that? that logic sounds more stupid than i can image, but than again banding gay marriage but allowing the bachelor to marry who america votes for sounds weird too, and that's legal.

Religious anti-gay marriage folks claim that "marriage" is a religious term. If indeed that is true, and if indeed marriage is a religious ceremony, then a person's legal standing shouldn't be affected by participation in a strictly religious rite. If that is the case, then government programs (medicare, social security, etc) and legal contracts should not recognize religious marriage any more than they recognize baptisms, confirmation ceremonies, or bar mitzvahs.
Either the term "marriage" is secular and applies to everyone, or it is a religious term and has no place in contract law.
It would be amusing if "marriage" was declared to be a religious term, and federal/state/local law required everyone who thought they were legally one unit have to become "civil unioned" to avoid shame and scandal . . .

Been busy running my business and trying to get the State regulators to pass a few rules to stop the transmission of hepatitis in my profession (long story), so I don't have a chance to get on the net as much as I used to . . .
