Hey VP this is a great thread and thanks for opening it.

Here is a serious question and I have read the majority of the thread but I’m not sure if its been asked or not… I have my own opinions as to why but I’m curious to what a Black person’s perspective is?

Why is it when the media shows violent acts on the news it is usually a Black male attacker or some other male member of a minority group?

Is it media bias?
Is it some cultures are more violent than others?
Is it an indirect form of racism?
Is it genetics?
Is it white fear?
Is it the result from societal oppression?
Is it the result of an oppressive history with a violent background?

I don’t know the answer here but I believe there are many aspects that play a role in understanding race and the dynamics of society. But dam if I hear about a violent robbery or attack on T.V. 8 out of 10 times it is either some Black guy or on occasion Mexican guy. IDK maybe it’s because I live in Southern CA… Who knows? However, you would think you would see more Mexicans but usually it a black guy on T.V…

I never see Asians or women (of any race) on T.V. for violent attacks….

Yes, It is media driven and its to keep he public (Reguardless of race) in fear. When a Big Black guy is in an elevator of an office bldg dressed in Jeans and a shirt, Then a middle aged white woman dressed for a board meeting comes in that same elevator why is there a sense of hesitation? Why does she stand toward the wall in a defensive stance as if an attack is pending? She has seen this so many times on TV and news cast. Yet when the doors open she feels a sigh of relief.

Your taught to believe that people are bad in general. If you go to other countries, they dont show these same news cast of constant violence and negativity. I dont remember a news cast where I didnt see shooting or death. Violence sells.
