If I could tell anyone something that I think would be good for a long term investment (10-20 years) is to buy 2oz of Silver bullion every week & sit on it. (1) it is a hard asset commodity & (2) you cant just go out & spend it easily once you have it . Silver right now is at a great entry price point for people who are wanting to diversify their investment portfolio. The price of the metal is down & with emerging markets such as China expanding their infrastructure with manufacturing ,medical & technology the metal has a very good potential to increase in value over the long term in my opinion.

Bedford, do you think the silver eagles or the fractional gold eagles have any advantage over buying bullion from one of the so-called mint.(I.e. Perth, Sunshine, etc)? I like the fact that the silver and gold eagles come from the U.S. Mint, but there is a savings to be had by buying bullion in ingot form..
Thanks! There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

To me Silver is Silver & Gold is Gold .If we are talking strictly bullion. My opinion is get it (buy) as close to the market spot price that you can . The U.S. Gov. products do sell for a higher premium than the generic private minted material but usually on the back end for the sales you will not recoup that premium . Yes you may get a little more than spot or the "going" rate but the percentage gap for the profit is small enough for me that I would stick to private minted bullion like Sunshine,OPM,or NTR metals products. Most reputable places will pay the current market rate on generic bullion. This applies to Gold as well as silver .
As for the part of the question on fractional gold , you pay for the convenience of the smaller form of the material & the smaller you go the higher the premium.
1/10 oz Gold Eagles will run $20-$25 per 1/10th over spot . That's +$250 or so per ounce .
Where a 1oz Gold Eagle will run $65 to $100 over spot per ounce.
So the question needs to be asked to yourself ,why do I need the fractional convenience if I only care about using it as an investment & not as a possible currency or bartering tool ? What other reason is there to even have fractional gold ?
If it is to be able to slowly buy a little at a time due to monetary constraints & stack up than it may be an option to consider.
If that is not a concern than I feel that buying the materials in their most universally accepted form & at the lowest price is the best way to buy. So I personally go with 1oz gold & silver in the private minted "generic" form.
Hope this helps.
