silent bob too fat to fly
Over the weekend, film director Kevin Smith (“Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”) was escorted off a Southwest Airlines flight to Burbank, Calif., because he was deemed too big to fit in the seat.
.Mr. Smith – the independent filmmaker known for his foul-mouthed comedies – took to Twitter to express his outrage to his 1.6 million followers, saying he “passed the stinkin’ armrest test” but was forced to leave the plane anyway. (Southwest, as well as other airlines, maintain that a passenger must buy a second seat if he or she can’t fit with the armrests down without encroaching on seatmates.) Smith had purchased two seats for a later flight, but was flying standby and there were no additional seats available. (On Twitter, Smith said he bought the two seats not because of his size, but because he prefers privacy while flying.)
On Monday, Southwest Airlines responded with a lengthy explanation on its website, saying “First and foremost, to Mr. Smith; we would like to echo our Tweets and again offer our heartfelt apologies to you.” (Who else would like to see a Miss Manners ruling as to whether an apology actually qualifies as heartfelt if issued via Twitter?) The airline's response was titled “Not So Silent Bob,” in reference to Smith’s famous on-camera incarnation. Southwest said its “customer of size” policy has been in force for 25 years, and when seats are available, these customers receive refunds for the extra seat or are relocated free of charge. Air France, JetBlue, and American Airlines have the same refund policy.
Airlines' policy of charging overweight customers for a second seat has been much-debated through the years. Last year, Southwest Airlines made headlines for causing a 400-pound California man to miss his uncle’s funeral. On the other side of the argument, a picture of an obese flier aboard an American Airlines flight that circulated the Internet raised safety concerns.
But Smith, whose new movie "Cop Out" comes out Friday, may well be the most high-profile person ever deemed “too fat to fly.” Southwest said he was issued a $100 certificate, received an apology by phone, and was accommodated on a later plane.
After arriving in Burbank on the later flight, Smith tweeted: "Hey @SouthwestAir! I've landed in Burbank. Don't worry: wall of the plane was opened & I was airlifted out while Richard Simmons supervised."

so I guess he bought two seats and then was bumped to another flight that only had one seat left...he sat down and they kicked him off.
The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance is calling for a Southwest boycott.

Yes actually 95% of them do.. Bodybuilders aren't wide at the WAIST but at the Shoulders.. so whereas the armrest can come down, the shoulders of the male or female bodybuilder will impede into the next seat causing a person sitting next to you to NOT be seated comfortably.

I think they should enforce this rule even more. Sorry but I don't like some fat person sitting next to me because also they generally have poor hygiene. I dont care if they cant help it I should not have to suffer for it.

And you are right 9 out of 10 times. MOST obese people it's due to being lazy and no self control but 99.999% think they have thyroid problem. lol
I blamed my weight gain on back problems (2 back surgeries) and getting older, slower metabolism. BS!!!!! Now that I added exercise back into my life and got off my ass my biggest problem is gaining weight. lol If I dont eat 6x a day i start to loose weight, 3-5 lbs in just a day or two....

idk about you guys, but if I got kicked off a plane for being too fat I wouldn't be on twitter about it all day long and leading a pro fat acceptance movement on the issue.
I'd go home, cry myslef to sleep and never tell a soul.

This makes more sense why a body builder like colman would get kicked off

I don't think that makes any sense imo.
It's not a cessna we're talking about here.
If everyone on the plane were 400 pounds it would still fly without problem. The pilot might just need to push a little harder on the throttle.
and the piliot has the ability to trim out the plane.
whoever wrote that article is just a lame recreational piliot for sure
The lift of a commercial airliner is FAR more than could be counteracted by ANY number of pasengers onboard.
Stacked like cordwood, MAYBE you might not get airborn, but barring that scenario, it'll fly.
If carrying cargo, then it's more of a concern as to the balance. Especially with military aircraft, where you might be transporting a tank or something.
a couple of fat people isn't going to change the flight charactaristics of something as big and heavy as a large jet.

I just spent some time searching and i cannot find an article that shows that overweight people directly affect plane flight. I see the airline wants to charge overweight people for two seats but that is more for the convenance of the passenger sitting beside them as oppose to plane safety.

I do not understand why people complain about a rule they agree to prior.
We all know when you buy a ticket it is a contract for service and have stipulations. Like you can´t be an idiot and yell HIJACK or carry things in that are not allowed.
If he does not like the ****en rule he should not have bought the ****en ticket. This whole fat ass crusade again SWA is just another sign of irresponsible behavior.

the problem is not that he's too fat, the seats are too narrow

so suppose they take his advise and build wider seats
now there are 5 seats to an aisle instead of 6
does that not cost everyone more? actually more per person then giving fat people an extra seat for free.
the plane would only be 83% it's current cappacity
that would only save money if they were giving away an extra seat to over 30 people on a 180 seat plane.
wtf is wrong with this fat fvcker
I'm 6'3'' and flying sucks, but I'm not expecting the airlines to remove the seat in front of me so I can fly coach in comfort.

southwest are cheap sons of bitches in his mind, he says he only buys to seats cause it's way more comferatable but there are airlines that offer first class seats...fly one of those if you're so weathy
or why don't you charter a cargo plane for elephants
just get off the news already
