Do You Believe In GOD?
I'm curious as to how many people here believe in God.
I hope we can stay above fighting about this and just share our personal thoughts on the matter. No calling out members if you disagree with them, please. It's just a question. This is not intended to be a debate.
If your answer is yes, I think it would be great if you might offer a little insight into your faith. Are you Christian, or something else? Why do you believe? If you don't wish to explain you don't have to.
My personal thought: No, I don't believe in God. So many terrible things in this world....

Christian, Been through some serious shit, Heart stopped, broken hip in 3 spots, broken jaw in 2 spots, broken ribs, punctured lung, busted insides.
Asked for Gods help when I wanted to just leave and commit suicide.
Strange thing that I cant really explain but id have to say that I actually talked to and felt God. I would liken it to a warming sensation across your whole body with a very peaceful calming. This immediately following a prayer asking for help to get through everything or I was going to give up.

Yes I believe there is a god. Maybe even a few of them, idk I figure I'll find out when I die. I don't think we were put on this planet to worship. That being said I don't believe in religion. To me religion is a crutch and based off of books that ancient kings had written. Some people need that crutch so I feel religion has it's place but it's not for me.
I believe in life and death. Anything after that will be for me to explore when my time comes.
Hopefully this thread stays civil but from past experience religion threads never do.

But I do believe in a greater power.

Yeah gotta agree the avy is a little brutal.....

My avy is a result of a smart-ass photo search. Some genius once started a thread about how he stabbed himself in the tongue injecting "oral" winny. I'm sure that thread is probably buried somewhere in the Hall Of Shame.
That, and being the total creep I am I found the picture rather arousing.... so I kept it.

I guess my deviant sexual urges are just a manifestation of my subconscious attraction to penguins. Thanks for helping me sort that out guys.
Seriously, never saw the penguin.

Zeitgeist just pokes fun of the extremely paganistic catholics... Though there really are Catholics who love God don't get me wrong...
In my military years I was an atheist... I died needless to say, found out that hell is a very real place, but God is too! He brought me back. I'm not religious I just know God personally and He loves us all

is there a god no thats what my mind tells me
i do however think the message left behind by a smart guy for the times they were in
was/is a good one
((church)) no matter what the religion is a scam even in darker days some religions would make you out to be something your not hang you burn you in public for not going to church
to many wars over religion carried out in a gods name unless your gods aries war should never be in a gods name

dont like religion
do believe in a god or maybe i confuse it with hope? maybe i fall under the unsure category.
just throwing this out there has anyone ever noticed how many flaws the bible has. just saying i find it odd we are suppose to look past those but believe in everything else. that seems to be the only thing that doesnt add up. well that and the fact its been over 2000yrs since the guy died when exactly was he planning his comeback?
the way i see it if you believe and hes real well you one lucky person. and if he turns out hes not real well oh well what did you really lose in believing i mean your dead by then anyways what are you gonna do about it? exactly nothing lol

I seriously cannot understand how anyone can read the bible, finish it, understand it, then believe it. The bible is not meant to be literal. We are just too dumb to see that. Some great lessons in there but seriously... SO many flaws its ridiculous that people believe in it.
-

the flaws in the bible stem from the fact the whole stories not there tho its been said more then once by there own people they pick and choose what gets into there bible
its not a typo i mean there bible it was all over the press when they said it a news reporter even said you mean our bible he said nothing

If you believe in God, you are stating that you believe the first human was made from mud from the earth. You are then stating the second human being made was made from the rib of the first human. You are also signing on to the fact that you believe the earth is only 10,000 years old, that it's okay to abuse your kids if God says it's okay first as a test of faith, that two of EVERY ANIMAL on the planet was put on to a huge ship before a flood and that somehow, all the animals were repopulated from just those two, that dinsosaur bones were put in the earth for some unknown reasons and that dinosaurs didnt exist, that burning bushes talk to people, that you dont need to have sex to become pregnant and that you can rise from the dead and so on.
That is what you are believing in from the Christian point of view.
We know the earth is not flat. We know the sun doesn't revolve around the earth. We know the earth is 5 billion years old.
It is generally and widely accepted that man, as we know man exists today, fully evolved has existed for some 40,000 years at least. And that back then, the average life span was something like 20 years of age. Pestilence, disease, predation, dying in childbirth the environment and all sorts of things regulating us and that God would watch this species. Dying in Brazil, Australia, China, dying in other places not known to the writers of these Testamounts and that only a few thousand years later decide its time to intervene, have a son only to have him torn to shreds in a part of bronze age Palestine, let the people in Brazil, Australia and China find out later that, thats what really happened.... and i'm sorry but how can any of that be believed? How can any serious, logical person believe that?
It's as absurd as going to Heaven and finding 72 virgins or that Bhudda was made in a slit in his mothers side.
I personally believe that not only is God as he is seen in holy textes and religion is man made but masculine made, and promotes utter contempt for women. We've seen the sort of rights women have in various parts of the Middle East, we know what St. Paul thinks of women, even Bhudda had to be born from a slit in his Mothers side because the thought of anything to do with menstral blood was simply too much for the superstitious male mind to contemplate back then.Last edited by Flagg; 02-12-2011 at 06:01 AM.

I believe we as humans, were brought onto this planet to populate it, being ourselves a genetic modification of a race far superior than we are.
What is beyond that, I do not care a snap anymore simply because I understood I cannot figure it out.

iv not read all the other posts but heres my veiw on it:
I believe in a higher force/being and he created all this stuff, you know all the sub atomic stuff like dark matter and anti matter the things that make up all other things in our universe, and he just watches it grow into galaxies and worlds and little micro organism called human beings and watches this little world destroy itself, its like raising your kids, if you truly love them you have to let go and let them do things for themselves.
well thats how I get my head round it any way.

iv read a couple of posts in particular @Flagg
yes its proven we evolved from apes but do you think the people of around 2011 years ago had the the intelligence to understand or figure that bit out ? c'mon
you know i reckon Jesus was ; a trickster , think about it, he was well ahead of his time, parting the red sea ? there is a natural phenomon that occurs where the red sea parts, jesus was just happy to take the plaudits for it. the virgin birth, now theres a story, id like to research that properly, but again not scientifically not possible.
I am christian, i believe in a god of some kind, but jesus ? pah

the last thing i forgot to mention was that , didnt they find a fifth book to the bible which should have added a bit more substance to it all and that they may be a total of 22 books that may have been destroyed.
also Jesus and his disciples stories and commandments were not new things they had simply recycled some Roman core values and made up a faith, not bad for a peasant carpenter.
Disclaimer: these are my veiws only, you can believe what you want.
