    Recovery from Knee operation...

a....the op went well. NO stress before or after. Situation went afowl when i was told that if the knee felt good, and no pain, then i should be g2g to walk on it. well well well.....

....right after the op, i wake up, and within 30 minutes, feel the need to take a leek. So i walk to the restroom. no issues, and no pain. offered me crutches, and i declined. i did take it easy when i got home. got home around 3. by 6 my knee was really talking to me. the pain meds the doc gave me weren't working. Tadonifil or something like that. so at 6 i decided needed some real pain meds, and called it in. by 7 i was writhing in pain. felt like a friggin ***** too since in front of my kids. they didn't need to see that!!

I didnt' get any relief until around 10 that night. i know it sounds weak, but damn! that was a loooong threee hours.

so now i'm thinking the nurse that told me if it felt ok, then i should walk on it was full of crap!

anyways, thought i'd share. the op itself was minor. but fyi, right after the op, even if it feels ok, DONT WALK ON IT !!!

still swelling on the knee. no vicodan today so far. feels good. i have a tendency to overdo things, so need to be careful.

but so far, no bruising!? two small holes is all there is for proof of surgery. evidently no big scars. today walking with a cane, and up and down the stairs a few times.

every day seems to be getting better....

Those small scars will even pretty much disappear with time.... you'll hardly be able to see em. FYI - 800mg's of motrin is roughly equivilent to the pain killing ability of one percoset. Atleast..... thats what my doc told me and had me take after my knee arthroscopy. It's also good because it's an anti-inflamatory.

    good luck mate

Oh and the doc told me to take the 800mg's of motrin 3x a day for 2-3 weeks..... i'm sure you wont need it that long but your liver will be fine if you did haha.

Hope you feel better soon, bro.

I've been there and done that 4 times (3 left/1 right) already. So I know what you're going through. All but my 4th surgery, I was always on my feet within a day or two. When my left knee was repaired a 3rd time, I was on crutches and in pain for 2 weeks. Believe me as I say, VICODIN IS YOUR FRIEND!

What surgery did you get done? Seems to me it was just orthoscopic and was it the whole knee? ACL, MCL, lateral miniscus...etc?

    No cadaver and or reconstructive?

I had both done at the sametime ortho and reconstructive with a cadaver with tons of bolts inside. Whole knee was blown out. Probably one of the worst points in my life. Had to do PT for a year and a half straight, 3 days a week. First few months with a bunch of staples in my knee too.

Wait till that ****ed starts to heal and stiffing up on you or you have to take a long car ride or sit down somewhere for long periods of time. Or after that and you have to stretch it.

Unless you are just being a vagina and you had some minimal lateral miniscus issue or just liek your pcl.....then I have no sympathy for you.....lol

only leg press for me from now on. squats is how i hurt it in the first place. but looking at the xrays, there was a pretty good size bone spur digging into the cartiledge creating a blister about the size of a nickle.

thanks for all the positive vibes mates!

    Best of Luck Rome....

Take that PT seriously,...and maybe some hgh would help grow some tissue. Also, check into deep healing massage.....been know to break up scar tissue which will be your biggest and most likely issue.

Keep getting better, TR. I'm in the same boat with squats, as it's looking as if they're a thing of the past.

^^^^ ARTHROscopic..... sorry lmao i'm an ortho specialist/rep by profession. It's a pet peeve

Cadaver bone/tendons (allograft) wont cause anymore pain than your own (autograft) - what you get will depend on the nature of the injury, your age, lifestyle, and the doctors personal preferance. Also.... how painful a reconstructive surgery is afterwards varys on a lot of factors and isn't necessarily all due to the injury. A lot of things go into what causes pain, bone trauma, incision size, etc..... this is mostly surgeon related. Othr factors such as the system he uses to make the repairs should be considered. There's mroe than one way to replace that torn ACL..... some systems are a bit outdated but doctors use them because they're "familliar" with them. Other systems are too new and the long term problems havn't surfaced yet..... but some surgeons like to use the newest thing out. Especially when that companies sales rep sends him on a training business trip to a state with a nice beach.

10 yrs ago, i was in a road traffic accident. drove my car straight into an oncoming van. broke both my knee-caps against the dashboard. one side needed wiring, the other only a cast. i was bedridden for a whole wk, eat, shit, pee, and bathed right there on the bed. didnt feel like walking even when the therapist came on the second wk...

you must be quite brave, to walk un-assisted right after surgery.

    or foolish. =)
didn't feel much pain. there are two kinds of pain. one that is persistant yet doesn't signify injury (like the arthritas in my back, for example.) This kind is OK to work through and sometimes improves after a decent workout. the second kind of pain does signify injury and should stop you from what ever activity that causes the pain.
so i was thinking the little pain i did feel was the first type, and since minor to moderate, then OK to work through. Wrong!!

Second day in the gym today. knee is still improving. did some zero weight leg extensions on the machine at 10 reps. and the stationary bike for awhile. range of motion is still improving as well.
