What's funny is when I was a kid smoking was legal everywhere. People smoked in the office at work, in elevators, airplanes and in grocery stores. I dont remember anyone bitching about it back then. lol

TR.....second hand smoke may not be as bad health wise when it's drifting from next door but that's like saying it's OK for your 12 year old to drink a sip or two of beer, after all it's not the whole six pack or etc. etc. etc. I know it's technically legal, but from a decency standpoint if someone asked me to stop blowing smoke at them I would at least try to find a way to do that considering how nasty it is. The bottom line is that it stinks and it's nasty, smokers don't like that reality but it's true, I refuse to enable them to shorten their life and make me smell their nasty breath without at least politely pointing out that they stink and are gonna die slow and painfully in front of their family. I think whenever we see someone smoking in public even if it's in their car that we should legally be able to taze their smelly asses.

And there is a time a day where the noise is allowed.
Just because you can smell the cigarette doesnt mean its fvcking killing you. You dont live in a bubble you have to deal with other people. If you dont like it move to the woods.
You know maybe she is a vegetarian and the smell of your bbq and cooking meat makes her sick and wants to vomit. Are you going to stop cooking in your yard?
You seem like a truck guy going by your avi. What about all the diesel pick ups with exhaust and a chip that throw a black cloud every time they hit the gas?If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

^^^ If she really had a problem with meat cooking I would talk it out with her and try to get along but their is a difference between an odor and carcinogens, if BBQ is bellowing smoke you might need to rethink your technique.
Funny you mentioned diesel trucks, just yesterday I saw a couple college guys in a dodge truck smoke out 2 Asian college students standing at a crosswalk, I watched the whole thing and it was definitely done on purpose, I could see how bad they got it and the one girl was coughing and choking, I know it was meant to be funny but it really wasn't. On the other hand I have spent some time in Panama City, Panama and I can tell you with great deal of certainty that we don't want to use as much diesel as they do, nearly everything is diesel and the city has a black soot on everything, thats why diesel is heavily regulated and being reformulated to try and deal with the nasty effects of the smoke.
No matter how you slice it......smoking is nasty and it affects everyone.

you took the words right out of my mouth, GB.
Look guys, i'm definately NOT a smoker, and personally, I'd prefer if no one smoked. BUT, and this is a HUGE BUT......
what a person does on their own property is up to them. If they aint hurting you or anyone else, then they should be allowed. (and if you say that little waft of smoke is hurting you, bullshit! if you want to complain, what about those farmers that burn huge piles of wood and debris on burn day, polluting the valley? what about that old diesel truck belching out blue smoke out it's stack? what about that asshole in the lane next to you with his punk ass puke music on full blast rattling the shiit out of his car? .... don't tell me that little waft of cigarette smoke is hurting you!!!)
It's all about personal liberty.
if you can't handle a little waft of cigarette smoke coming over the backyard fence every now and then, then YOU are the one with the problem, and YOU should move to a place where little wafts of cigarette smoke won't BE coming over the fence.
So say you get the police involved, and now that hag next door can't go in her back yard anymore and smoke her cigarettes. (poor hag!) but your BBQing bothers her, so here come the cops again, and guess what? you're not allowed to use your BBBQ anymore! oh, and that fukkin barking dog of yours? yep! cops came and took that mangey mutt away too! and by the way, the neighbors across the street noticed that you don't mow your lawn every week, in fact, it's been three weeks, so now you are in violation of your CCR's, and yep! Cops came and gave you a ticket. and oh, guess what? remember banging the ol lady in the living room last week? well, hate to tell you this, but your curtains weren't completely closed, and the neighborhood kids saw. in fact, little johnny told his mom the church lady, so now she reports you to the cops and off you go in hand cuffs for lewdness and exhibitionism involving a minor, so now you are a registered sex offender. In fact, after that little stunt and the cops hauling you away, your boss found out, and you got canned. and lord knows your woman aint going to be hitched to some con "no job" loser, so she files divorse on your sorry ass and now you can't go within 1500 feet of a school or else your ankle bracelett will go off.
Personally, i'd tell you to suck it up and just deal with it. these things have a tendency to snow ball.

Eh, don't think the just deal with it is going to work for me. Next time I am out there with my kid and she isn't already smoking, say she comes out and lights up and its bothersome, i am going to ask her to wait until we are done outside. What if you had a bunch of guests over and had a picnic in the backyard, not that mine is big enough, but say family was over and eating, and all the sudden everyone was breathing in smoke, sure enough I would ask her to go smoke somewhere else till we are done. And the language thing I will definitely make a big deal about that. And her husbands truck in front of my house, yes i'm going to call the cops and get him towed because he is in front of a fire hydrant. I am going to be selfish, I pay good money to live in this pos, i'm not going to let some retards ruin it for me. Also I have always been against enfor***ent that doesn't allow you to park trailers and things in front of your house on the street, but maybe next town meeting I will go bring it up, its been brought up before and borderline being implemented. Then this shit fvck will have to go buy a storage parking space, and the whole street will look better.

^^^again why should she have to wait till you are done in your yard to smoke. Why dont you leave and come back when she is done smoking. I understand you dont like it. But you dont have more say or rights then her.
If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

just trying to show it don't take much for the neighborhood to escalate into a downhill b1tch session.
now, when i was younger and more devious, i lived in thesee apartments on the first floor. second store tenant above me threw a party one night, all night, with loud music and doors opening and closing all night, with traffic. I say nothing....
....at 6am sharp and while their drunk asses were still hung over in the bed, and with about 1000watts of speakers aimed uup at the ceiling, i begin rocking out to KISS, Judas Priest, etc. I play a whole album, which is something like 45 minutes.
I never bitched, and neither did they. but they got the message. for the next year and a half, no more parties. they absolutely knew why i did what i did. problem solved

You're right TR, legally they have a right to smoke on their own property and park wherever they want but it is still inconsiderate and the rest of us still have the right to free speech so I guess it's legal for us to bitch about it. Just like my neighbor always dropping hints about how he goes about controlling dandelions......I don't think he appreciates my right to have a yellow yard.
I still think if you taze her nipples she'll quit blowing smoke on you.

ok i have the solution. Your neighbor can smoke in her yard. You and your kids can enjoy your yard and not have to smell it.

figured I would update this for the heck of it. Really hasn't been that bad lately, I haven't heard any language or fighting out of her, and only smelt her smoke once in the past couple weeks. I think she got another job or something. Anyways I found out she used to work at the elementary school. She got fired because she was threatening kids saying she would pull a columbine on them, at least that is what I heard through the women's gossip in a small town, and from her coworkers.

Agree!
Op take some personal responsibility for YOUR problem, and I say this cuz you are the one with the prob, it’s not your neighbors job to make sure everyone in the neighborhood is happy. so you hate your neighbors ~ big whoop, I live in an apartment building in the city with the neighbors all over me, could you imagine my trying to control the apartment tenants and building neighbors to shut their yelling bratty kids up as they play loudly outside cuz Tiger works 3rd shift and is trying to sleep, stop their babies from crying at 4am cuz I wanna sleep or to have them all stop smoking or put out there butts when I go out side? Lol ridiculous.
So take measures to make your life as enjoyable as you can in your own environment or move to a more desirable location... besides kids are too friggan sheltered and catered to now a days I swear some parents would keep them in a bubble if they could, so they cuss (not like your kid will never be exposed to swears) and they smoke (driving in a vehicle is the number 1 cause of death ~ do you plan to stop driving your kid?) lol I think not... so lets put it in perspective here

That crap is really unrelated. Apartments that is expected, hence why you want to get a house to avoid that. When my kid is 2 years old and picking up new words, I don't want them dropping f bombs when they have no clue what htey are saying, when they are older and they can choose how they want to talk and act that is fine, I'm not one for sheltering children, but teaching them and letting them learn and make decisions, and having consequences for their actions. How is a pregnant woman breathing in second hand smoke in any way related to the risks of driving? I'm not worried about them dying from it but it having a huge impact on their quality of life from being exposed to it while in utero. Anyways, all things to consider when I do have the opportunity to move houses, the problem really hasn't been that bad lately as i stated above your post.

The thread is full of unrelateds..the whole thing about smoking in public would b better debated if she wasn't on her own property...imo, smoking has no place in public and I think the civilized world will soon be there soon being relative
