Reccommend TV
Hi lads,
I have been out of the Audio Visual game for a long time due to me not tempting myself in buying stuff just for the sake of it. All I'm looking for is a decent TV nothing out there price wise up to about 1300 dollars. Would be loads of a budget.

Get a Samsung smart tv, why? Well Samsung makes the actual internals and memory modules, why not buy a tv with its own internals, other tvs use Samsung parts.
Ex best buy manager here.

I have several different brands. Depends on your use. I watch alot of downloadable content and my Internet ready Samsung 46 inch led tv can play any file I throw at it. It syncs up with my home network and has no problem streaming Mkv files directly from my server at home. My suggestion would be to get a networkable tv. I haven't needed to play a DVD or bluray in over 2 years

I did the samsun 60". Not a smart tv though. But one of the best TV's.
My price point was about the same as you, and coming up to xmas time, between bet buy and walmart and places like that, you can get an amazing TV for cheap. Also groupon everyday has 55+ tvs for under 1500.
The only thing wrong with my TV, it only have two inputs for HDMI. So we bought a sound bar system that we cant use or the only way to use it is to unplug it every time. Between the cable box, and the playstation 3. So I think that's something to keep in mind.....if u r into surround sound or anything too.

You can always buy one of these for your TV:
Newegg.com - StarTech 3 Port HDMI Auto Switch w/ IR Remote Control VS123HD
That should fix the 2 input limit.

Tried doesnt work. even got one that had 4 connects. You need it going into both sources. Like a splitter. So one for your tv/sound and then the other components.
I can listen to surround sound on cable but if I want to watch a movie have to disconnect myself still even with that connection.

I would avoid buying from places such as walmart, costco, etc...
When I was shopping I called Sony, and I asked them why the same model is cheaper at walmart than other places. It didn't make sense that the competition refuses to compete. They explained that they manufacture TV's specifically for some retailers, where they would be lacking features; making them more cost effective. Obviously if you're not a TV head, save your money. But if you want a fully featured TV with all the bells and whistles, don't buy from them.
If you look at the box you'll notice an extension to the model number. Usually dash something... many times not listed on the sticker.
BTW, Vizeo uses samsung panels. They're actually great TV's.~ PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SOURCE CHECKS ~

With retailers like Best Buy and Fry's, there is a little room for negotiation. Most of them will price match too. Those electronic store employees make their bonuses based off how much margin over budget they get at the end of the month. And there is room to win your business with the margin they make off their service plans and accessories they sell. So those electronic stores often can be negotiated with to make a deal that's better than what Walmart is doing.
Plus Walmart's selection is horrid.

Actually..... Best buy is fvcking horrible. When I bought my tv I went to 3 stores. One store dropped the price to $1200 from $1800 with the warranty. I went to the 2nd store and the manager told me he doesn't even buy the TV for that price. I asked him what his sales record was like and walked out. The 3rd store I went to was best buy. I tried negotiating and they told me they don't budge on pricing. I told them I can get the same tv for hundreds less at electronics expo..... They said they still can't budge.
I've been in the AV business for the last two years. The best place to buy tv's is online or Costco.

Best buy and frys are not commission based pay stores. They pay hourly. Floor staff in either building achieve bonus dollars based on extended service plans sold, they have nothing to do with pricing.

Fry's has commission sales people there. And the way Best Buy makes their bonuses is they're given a notional margin budget (a daily profit goal) from their corporate office (it varies depending on the day and the department). Usually, the big ticket items like TVs, computers, tablets etc are break even (the cheap items are sold at a loss once you figure in the cost of keeping the lights on) at most they make like 10-15 bucks on them. What they make their money on is the service plans and the accessories to those big ticket items. You know those house brand HDMI cables they charge $20 for? It costs them like a buck. So if you're looking to get an extended plan and some accessories, they almost always are willing to negotiate a discounted price in order to keep you from buying from one of their competitors.

Once I started with the AV company I learned just how horrible best buy was. Everything they sell is overpriced. There's a store near me called ADI that supplies all the AV companies in this area. Hdmi cables are like $4 lol - they stock anything and everything AV wise at warehouse pricing

Well, Best Buy and Fry's were competitors of mine and I've delved into researching them heavily. Both of the companies got away from commissioned salesreps (biggest mistake). Best buy many years ago, and Frys recently.
Best buy recently implemented a new program where they match even online prices (Generally from authorized dealers), and that's really the only negotiation tool.
But yes, accessories are the heart of every business. Mcdolnalds doesn't really make money selling 99 cent burgers. They profit from drinks, shakes, coffee, deserts, etc...~ PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SOURCE CHECKS ~

Well only 6 weeks into the new place, finally got a tv today with a blu ray player too.
Called into a friend who works in an electrical place, he doesn't sell the tv's as hes on the white goods but he got me the staff discount on a LG 42 inch smart tv. With the discount on the tv I basically got the blu ray player free.
Had to get some blu rays so bought the die hard box set of course lol watching it here forgot how good the surround system is.

Is your Smart TV Spying on you?
I would donsider not leaving it hooked up to the internet all the time or at least trying to learn to disable what it's sending out.

I dont have a LG but I am going to be checking mine to see if it's sending out anything over my router. Sort of sucks that so many of our privacy's are being violated.
I just got a new TV for the bedroom. It's only 60htz 1080p 50" Insigna for $399 but it's good enough for the bedroom. I'm getting a lift so it will sit at the foot of the bed between the end board and mattress and lift via remote.
