Saw this yesterday. What a shame. It seems that our police forces are becoming more and more thugish.

His fat uncared for body killed him. The attempted choke hold was never even in place. Positional asphyxia is the more likely culprit. He died when his fat body exerted to much pressure on the internal organs.

If you can't breath you can't talk.
Choking him out did not do this. May have been wrong. I dono I wasn't there
    Fact He was resisting
They started with standard practice when he started to pull away. Were they wrong .?
Was he wrong he could have complied with them . I dono wasn't there
Big guy not in compliance with a lawful order offering resistance...

Police do NOT know how to defuse a situation other than total domination.

it looked to me he would have willingly allowed the cuffs, just didn't want to be handled.

it's a shame. this didn't have to happen

To me he didnt seem too compliant. Now.... If he just broke up a fight idunno why they're questioning him for something more serious but I Wasnt there so I can't speculate.

IF..... And only IF..... They had the proper reasons for questioning him then their procedure didnt seem faulty. He Wasnt complying and when ur told to put ur hands behind ur back..... You ought to or they'll make you.

youre crazy. Those cops should be put to death. Murdering terrorists is what they are. Regardless of complying. You don't kill someone. They could have easily tased the guy into submission. Instead they chose to tackle him like gang members would do.

if you mean by not being compliant that he didn't jump to attention, say "Yes officer", and immediately put his hands behind his back, then maybe you are right. But he wasn't going anywhere either. Some of these people are terribly afraid of the police, and fear clouds their judgment.

this was extremely different than the Rodney King drama from twenty years ago. With Mr. King, I was in agreement that it was a clear case of resistance.

I just don't see it here. What I see is someone that is afraid.

The guy was a seriously big dude and not compliant at all.

NYPD rank and file officers did not carry tasers last time I checked. Also, people generally do not die from being tackled, wrestled, and punched a couple of times. Most of us here have probably walked away from a worse beating at some point.

I am a long shot from being "pro-LE" but when you're surrounded by nine cops and resisting cuffs WTF do you think is going to happen?

get tased. Not murder. Doesn't take a genius to make that call. Any of those numbskulls could have just tased him.

Tasing him is considered more "force" than putting him on the ground. They didnt execute this guy.... He had complications prior to the incident. No one gets put on the ground and dies unless something is wrong with them. In which..... Only he would know and not the police.

I'm not pro LE either btw

Sorry man, but that simply is not the case with today's LE officers. The headlines are full of articles to the contrary.

Potato Potato. I'd rather get tased than choked to death. Complications or not, this type thug/gang-like force has proven to be deadly more often than a taser.

He's dead now... Choke applied properly? There's only one way to choke someone to death? Regardless of the cause, if he wasn't molested by these thugs he would be alive.

Yes, his condition certainly didn't help. I'm sure others may argue he wouldn't have dropped dead if the police hadn't handled him, but he certainly wasn't putting himself on a long road of healthy living and longevity looking like that.

You and I are closer in agreement. The outcome was unfortunate, there's no disputing that. Was unnecessary force used? That's a judgement call and an opinion. The man certainly wasn't very cooperative but we didn't see all the events that lead to this situation or any prior history he may have had with law enforcement. Every time I see someone arguing with law enforcement, it makes me suspicious. If you haven't done anything, why not cooperate? The more you resist and become argumentative, the more you look suspicious and the more likely the situation is going to escalate and result in use of force - duh!

Yes, I know some cops abuse their power and authority; I know doctors that equally abuse their positions and they are responsible for the safety and well being of patients. Sure, they don't walk around with a gun and a badge, but misappropriation of medical treatments can have just as dire, if not worse outcomes.

I don't envy law enforcement. They aren't well liked by the public. Many despise them and will deliberately make their job difficult. I'm sure many cops can share stories of abuse and belligerence they've had to tolerate in the workplace from condescending dick heads that don't respect authority. We don't see videos of those incidents posted on the internet as often. Unfortunately, these viral uploads give many in the public the impression that every cop is manipulative and abusive - that's like saying the guy in the video must have been up to no good because of his color. That's just ridiculous (it could just as easily have been a fat white dude, but many people will be quick to judge based on racial factors and we all know how unfair that is).

Finally, I don't know how many people here have been tazed. Actually, I would be interested in knowing. I have an x26c police taser in my night stand. I've never been tased, but from the stories I've heard and some of the video uploads I have seen, no thank you ma'am! That shit looks unpleasant. I'm sure the pain is temporary but hell, no.

FYI - CHOKE HOLDS ARE NOT PERMITTED BY THE NYPD. It's AGAINST THE LAW for an OFFICER TO APPLY A CHOKE HOLD.

    Just a little factoid...

He could of just as easily died from being tazed, his heart obviously wasn't in good shape. These videos are so unfair to all parties involved, they always paint a one picture. Cops have the worst job out there, I can't say if these guys were right or wrong, I wasn't there, but when a cop tells you to do something, you do it or you take the chance of shit like this happening. Especially in this day and age of youtube and cell phone videos of cops beating up people, you know if you resist you will get your ass beat, so why do it? It's sad, I feel bad for his family, and I feel bad for the families of the officer's, cause their lives are about to get real shitty.

Yes, he could have. But they broke the law by using a choke hold. Cops have a tough job, no doubt. But they chose that job and they chose to be models for the people. They swore to hold themselves responsible as they do the people. No one is forced into the police force.

We could come up with a million scenarios how he could have died. A cop could have jumped over him, causing him to fall and split his head open and die. etc. etc. That's not what happened though.

I wouldn't even call that a choke hold..... More like a take down maneuver. A choke hold is applied and held. He didnt hold it.... The guy went down and it was over. The guy was still alive and talki while on the ground. Which proves it Wasnt the supposed "choke" that killed him. It was his obesity and lack of good health that killed him.

Are u trying to aggravate me or does it come naturally to u? Lmao

I would say his choice to not cooperate killed him, had he done as he was told, the cops wouldn't have had to make a choice to engage him and they wouldn't have made poor judgement in the way they went about subduing him. Either way, they were all to blame and the video doesn't paint the whole picture.

Are u trying to aggravate me or does it come naturally to u? Lmao
I don't think many people know exactly what happens when you're beginning to get choked. People assume that a choke hold at all stages terminates any vocal function. Now that's funny.

But yes, I was just trying to aggravate you. All I know is that if that were you, I'd jump in and save you. Then I'd be a hero, and you will owe me for the rest of your life. You can pay me in chicken breasts. Hold the chicken.

Either way, they were all to blame and the video doesn't paint the whole picture.
It's against the law to choke someone. COPS are also forbidden. I agree that we don't know the whole story. Either way, they broke the law. They have to be held accountable. Discounting that fact is just out of this world.

Are you saying these gangster cops should walk?

It's against the law to resist arrest, he broke the law first setting the shit show in motion. I know if a bunch of cops are telling me to do something, I'm doing it, cause at my size they will take extreme measures to make sure they don't get hurt. That was a big dude, a couple hay makers and he wipes out two or three cops with ease, they do what they feel necessary at the time, which is usually in poor judgement.

I have to agree with aust here... no need for a chokehold. Police are constantly abusing their authority and people are dying instead of being "brought to justice"...

Up here in canada, just a few igloos over from mine- a police officer is being charged with murder in a rare occurance where this type of video was viewed and made viral and actually concluded that there were grounds for action against the police. Nown i hope he is CONVICTED which is still a long way away if at all... even tho he shot a kid 6 times who was a threat only to himself.... FTP lol
