Oh man, this thread should just be locked.
Boxing does not lose viewers to MMA. In fact the demographic is completely different. Only about 15% of people who attended UFC 77 had attended a boxing event. At the beginning of the year, boxing and UFC had a PPV that fell on the same night. Both PPV's did the same NUMBERS as it usually does. However, WWE and UFC had a PPV on the same night and WWE's PPV's were significantly lower than usual. UFC if anything is a threat to WWE NOT BOXING.
Secondly, UFC is a brand name. Its a household name and the popularity of MMA really is misleading. Many UFC fans are what the name implies, UFC FANS. NOT MMA FANS. UFC is the thing to see, just like extreme sports was the thing to see in the late 90's.
Boxing shattered the PPV record set by the UFC in 2006 and this is not even including the HATTON/MAYWEATHER PPV from this Saturday.
MMA is and will always be a popular and fantastic sport. But to say boxing is losing fans to MMA when boxing has garnered 2.15 million viewers for the DLH/Mayweather fight and than well over 1.5 million for the HATTON/MAYWEATHER fight is extremely naive and uneducated assumption. If anything the popularity of MMA has helped boxing in that it exposed MMA fans to other combat sports.
