^^ Thanks bro...
I gotta agree with the TKD statements as well... They are only underrated here in the states, elsewhere like Korea and Japan, those guys are amazing...

Seems like a clear case of self defense to me. I think this is exactly why we train in martial arts and if you hadn't done the job on him he'd still be out there bothering someone else. Good job WARMachine!

Did his hit leave a noticeable mark? thats the only downfall of getting hit first...having to explain to clients about the marks(bar fights are looked down on)....luckily in canada....no matter what profession...explaining it as a hockey fight is tottally acceptable!

Weird. Normally the spin kick is very effective, see: Chuck Norris. The guy must've been having an off day.

Wow....now it all makes sense. I wondered why whenever I got in a convo with someone else who took martial arts(real stuff and for years) they always got quiet when I said I studied TKD. I live in a rural area and there aren't many martial arts schools but the head of ours was a little korean guy who was tough as nails.
We didn't learn much in the way of flashy kicks or anything like that but he pounded the fundamentals into our heads and discipline was huge. We could joke around a little but disrespect against anyone was always punished. Anyone with a tough guy attitude or anyone that used what they learned in class in the wrong way was dealt with severely.
I was always a solid striker. That came naturally for me, but with what I learned I was able to improve on that. The only kicks we really focused on were, front, side, and round. The basic moves and a lot of work on reflexes were key. At first I didn't understand why we spend so much time on proper technique but after a while I understood. If you hit someone with a good strike it takes much less power to do damage. And if you are a good power puncher and you add accuracy into that......
For defense he would have us spar, one guy gets to attack and you had to defend. Try doing that for 3 minutes!! Full contact wasn't allowed until brown belt and for good reason.
And does it really cost 5k at most TKD schools to get a BB? I helped clean and helped with teaching the smaller kids to get my training for free(I was broke back then).
It's a shame real TKD loses respect because I thought it was good stuff.
I really had no idea people looked down on it so much as a whole.
From now on I'm just gonna say Karate or not mention anything LOL
For the record....I'm not a wanna be tough guy or even a tough guy for that matter!!
I wouldn't stand a chance against a solid JJ student of any kind. I have a wrestling background but would look like a fish flopping on the floor trying to escape!!
Did you ever hear anything more about that guy?

There is nothing wrong with TKD by any means. Its a great work out and can be functional to some extent but the problem is most of the schools are a joke and the instructors are only there to make buck. This problem is not limited to TKD

But you never know with crazy fvcks like that.
TKD has indeed lost his respect, and its a shame because it was at one time a respectable sport.
Too many people handing out belts for money, as well as non quilfied individuals teaching.
I see the same happening now to my own sport.
Personally, i blame the sudden explosion of the UFC, as well as the greediness of gyms like Gracie Barra and other McDojo schools.

Yeah it's sad really. I've seen a lot of MMA schools pop up around Pittsburgh. They have fight nights but it doesn't seem like there are many really skiled fighters. Kurt Angle was supposed to train at one of the schools for some reality show. But I think his knees are about shot from what I hear.

Kurt Angle is the new Rickson Gracie
