Im doing the GI and No-GI tourney.
Heres the link for their page,
www.overcome-training.com/specialevents.html -if you could tell me the rules that'd be sweet i dont have the media player plug and im on dial up so i dont know
its some lame's new MMA gym so im gunna go hope theres no Sand baggers their but we'll see.
im not training legs the day before instead im gunna work take downs and what not with my buddy whos a state Champ in Jr college wrestling

cups and mouthpieces are optional
No slamming. No heel hooks, toe holds, wrist locks, small joint locks, neck cranks.
Straight ankle locks are allowed and so are kneebars and slicers.
Refs decisions are final.
2pts for takedown.
3 points for guard pass
side control or knee in the belly 2 points
4pts for mount or backmount
looks like adult and masters only.
so 5 minute match for you.
looks like you can make middleweight, which is 173lb limit.
pretty much standard shit...
Just work your gameplan and stick to it.
Keep postured, and keep those arms tucked when youre on top.
Other than that, have fun. Tournaments for white belts are just experience.

thats lame no wrist locks. did it say if i weigh with GI on or off?
sucks i dont know kneebars or slicers but im sure ill be fine
-
05-06-2009, 12:24 AM #7
It didnt say. But i doubt this tournament is following IBJJF regulations so im sure its without the GI.
Anyway, just stick to the basics bro. Keep your balance, and SERIOUSLY! Think of a gameplan and stick to it.
btw, only pvssys and white belts tap to a wrist lock. Its about as bad as a cervical guillotine.
Which btw is probably illegal in your tourn too.

im sure i could make 173 then with no GI, and my plan will be to trip them or whatever so im on top, Then work to side and get them in some kind of choke and if anything presents itself ill take that too, I know im strong and i have good cardio.
One of the Refs is a BB under Cass his name is Gus.
and i got over on one of his students who is at my weightclass and has competed before but hes never won by submission which i think is lame but whatever. and me and him are car pooling to the tourney but hes gunna be lighter than me im sure of it

if you happen to get taken down, work to get to guard before anything, then look for a sweep.Remember posistion before submission and You'll be fine.Tourneys are cool, and there's nothing wrong with wiining on points or adv.

dude...kneebars should not be allowed by certain experience levels. Good way to pop a knee. Work take downs HARD. In the end, most take downs are successful because either 1) the guy messes up or 2) you wanted it more. You should have your gym go round robin with you. WIth no rest back to back so you can really get your condition up to par.

tourney is this Sat so i dont now how much higher i can get my conditioning, but im confident ill do fine as long as theirs no sand baggers.
Do they score takedown if you pull guard from their take down?
-
05-06-2009, 12:24 PM #12
Yep...doesn't matter if you pull guard...they still took you down.

u sure on that one? i thought i was different.
Also im gunna cut a few pounds to make 173.
This sound good?
Lower Carbs Today
Lower Tommorow
No-Carbs friday maybe 60 at the most.
Then saturday weigh in B4 meal 1 which is at least 2 to 2.5 hours before 1st match.
then Carb up after weigh in 75-100 grams of carbs oats and fruit or sweet taters, then i have 2 hours to let it digest.
also should i drop the creatine? im taking 5 grams daily.
and LOL im gunna end up in the same class as my buddy

oh man...so your condition is not top notch and you are cutting. I dunno man.
-
05-06-2009, 03:47 PM #15
no my conditioning is fine, im jsut saying its not going to improve by any noticiable amount in 3 days
-
05-06-2009, 07:07 PM #16
If you pull guard before they shoot, he wont get the takedown points. If hes already shot on you, and youre sprawling and then pull guard, he gets his points.
Look youre only cutting 2 lbs. Just the creatine, and no carbs after 4 PM the day before the weigh ins. Youre so damn young youll drop 2lbs by taking a shit.
Are the weigh ins the day before, or the day of right before your first match?
Itll be one or the other.

Best of luck bro. Let us know how it goes.
-
05-07-2009, 09:09 PM #21
Good luck, dont give up too quick if you get caught. Good chance you can escape, pending you have trained and know proper escapes. Remember turn towards the trapped arm hard on a triangle and heel hooks just hurt, no damage is happening. Again best of luck! Let us know how it goes.

^ Are you seriously advising not to tap to a white belt?
Same thing i tell my guys, if it hurts, tap.
You should see the injuries these new guys cause/get due to not tapping or letting go.

So first things first, I cannot even explaiin with words how exhausting jiu-jitsu competition is period, i have never expended so much energy in so little time in my entire life and i have never been so gassed in my life ever not once to that extent. The Words Competition Condition Just jut got a whole new meaning.
So now that Tournament I cut weight and i weighed in at 169lbs all of you who know me, know That AJ dont weigh no 169lbs and thats true i walk around at about 175-Not for long though.
So I have not been training that long i just did this to get used to competition.
I was the least skilled and least experinced in my division. My only thing i had was, i am alot stronger than everyone at my weightclass, but that was only untill i gassed out from Nerves, Adrenaline and expending energy being not so "Technical" basically using more energy then needed.
My First Match was agaisnt a guy who had been training 9months under Andre Glodinski. Guys name is Padro Silva
This Guy was way better than me.
So match starts and he gets the take down 2pts (I need to work on my take downs BIG TIME) then i work open guard and push him back and he jumps guard, i start trying to pass him guard and this kid is good im nervous and shit and he is going for sub after sub but im fairly easily denfending but am using a ton of energy mostly from nerves. theres 2 mins left on the Clock and a Brown Belt and BB from my school Derek and Adrain Yell "He's gunna win You have to pass his gaurd!" so i stick my knee in his tailbone and put my other knee to the side and break his guard slip my knee over and then i end up in Mount 4pts for me now theres 130seconds left. From mount i got for and Ezequiel Choke, but he had my sleeves weigh up on me by my elbows so i was really sloppy none the less it was choking him, he then bucks me hella good and i was trying to hold on to the choke to i posted with my right leg and he got me back into guard, I was more then running on empty i wasted SO MUCH ENERGY i cannot even explain it (im going to change my training) so he stuffs my right arm and yup he Triangles me its nearly perfect somehow i can kinda breathish i cannot really explain how much i wanted to win, so im fighting to get my arm across and i cant breath and i did my chin into my bicep and get hardly any air, which isnt even my main problem cuz its a damn blood and oxygen choke, so i hear my corner shout You GOT just 20 more seconds Dont Tap and youll win, im fighting its it and all their shouting starts to get quieter and softer untill im like "Dude just tap" then i go Fvck that
and i use ever last it of energy bit of energy i didnt have and posture up and lean back and bam he lets it up and i spin to almost half guard and Bam Rounds over, im purple and red and about to pass out i stand up ref holds my hand up i go sit down and the only thing i can think is OMG Fvcking A, i have another match!!!! my forearms are on Fire almost as bad as my lungs and i couldnt defend myself agaisnt a moth im more gassed then gassed im dead, now everyone starts to get louder and everything comes back to me. i didnt recover fully for about and hour after that match which lasted 5 MINUTES!!!! and by standards im in good shape which is completely different from Competition Condition, Way Different Go Carts Vs Indy Cars no BS.
so i recover to about 30-35% and then my next match i was considering forfitting but didnt
is about 5-7 minutes after my first so how it took longer to i got to rest about 10mins, which wasnt shit LOL.
My oppenent trained under same guy as my last and had been training twice a day for about 7 months is what he said
So im like ok, the ref see's me and says wow when was ur last match?
"I dunno"
he says "you good?"
"I need about 15minutes but lets get it on"
LOL Bad idea.
so I had to jump guard.
Match starts he gets the take down 2points falls into my wussy half-guard
opens it then we scramble he goes to my side im kinda turtle not by choice but exhaustion, then he goes for my back and i roll and turn, he didnt get his hooks in but he got the points i dunno how, the ref is my friend so i trust him ad this kid was better than me so im not bitching, well kinda. then i end up with him in my half guard he passes it like butter and mounts me. Points and more points, I snatch his arm and Buck and Turn and sweep him, so now im in his Guard which i remain trying to pass untill the last 20 seconds when i pass his guard and mount him and then time runs outs he beats me 12 to 6.
then goes on to Win 1st place after beating another Guy.
uhhh yup that pretty much sums it up. I USED WAY TOO MUCH ENERGY. afterwords i was dead for about 30 mins i through up and fell asleep for about 5 mins LOL, Im stepping my game up starting now.
Oh and ya i skipped the No-GI after cuz i was hella tired and there was all the same guys plus 4 more for the no-GI
