Wow John Jones is impressive
The guy is so relaxed fighting, so sleek. Almost reminds me of a bigger, taller, longer Anderson Silva.
Everyone loves Matt Hammil, I hate watching the guy get hit like that. I've liked Matt ever since he got robbed in the Bisping fight.
Will be interesting to watch jones as he starts to fight ranked fighters.

I'd like to see Jon Jones against Luiz Caine or Keith Jardine. That would be a big step up in competition, but he destroyed Matt Hamill so I think he deserves it. He's only 22 and also very mature.

John Jones is one of the most gifted fighters I have seen come along in a while. He was robbed last night, that f**kin' ref should be fired. He destroyed Matt Hamill the whole fight. I have seen refs stop fights much sooner when the guy on the bottom is just laying there. Also in the very next fight some guy hit the other with about 6-7 of the same elbows and nothing was even said. Also the ref said one point, and then gave the fight to Matt Hamill, WTF? Where the hell is Big John when we need him?

I disagree, Jones while probably one of the most gifted fighters in MMA today, simply lost track of the rules in the fight. Easy to do, and mistakes happen.
But a clear message had to be sent that the rules will be enforced.
He had that fight, easy. But a 12 to 6 elbow is very dangerous because the point of the elbow landing with the soft tissue around your mouth and face can really kill someone.
The DQ while not good for Jones won't really hurt his fighting status, and it is good for the sport. Because the fight was stopped from those blows, a point deduction seems like a pointless punishment wouldn't you agree?

We all expected him to out strike Hammil, but he out wrestled him is what made him so impressive.
Also, a 6'5" LHW with a 84" reach that has a striking game? How do you beat that when he's also so comfortable and moves so well? I think he could pick apart Jardine, good striker with reach vs. a unorthodox puncher.
I say give him little nog. good stepping stone for both of them.

It happens all the time. How many times do we se low blows or grabbing the cage repeatedly and nothing is done? I see these things happen almost every fight. The rules are only strictly enforced on some people. I have seen a fighter mounted and take 7-8 shots all landing on his arms and the ref stop it. Jones must have landed 20-30 shots and the ref just stood there until the last two elbows. The 12 to 6 elbow is no more dangerous than any other move in MMA. Joe Rogan explained why that stupid rule was put in the UFC.

the rule is still the rule and he did break it. imo jones has the tools to be a game changer in the LHW class.
so much of it comes down to reach and quickness, and he has both in spades. he might not be as powerful as some of the best 205 guys, but he has sick skills and with his hand and foot speed i think he should be able to be in any match.
the 205 class is easily the most exciting in MMA right now.

Rogan? Seriously? If you belive everything out of that guys mouth....
But I do belive he said it's "not harder than a different elbow"
But it's not the strike of the blow, it's the place it causes impact. The area on your face between your eyes/mouth/nose just has thin bone and cartilage. Getting punched there with a glove on, spreads out the impact or lbs/sq inch. But the point of an elbow can kill you or turn your face to mashed potatoes.
But I still agree with the call, if knocking someone out with a illegal blow does not call for an EQ....what exactly would?

I think crap like this makes UFC look even worse than it already does. Too much politics and bullshit. They have already taken out many of the most effective moves in fighting. Hell, lets put in a few more rules so we can have boxing with take downs.

If you re/watch the fight, you'll even see Rogan say that Hamill was defending the shots. He was cut, but he still had his arms up and was not out, or tapping.
But Rogan is always bias in fights, his BJJ training really has no relevance to the medical damage a point of and elbow has coming strait into the thin and weak tissue on your face. Forchanate for fighters.....the Nevada Athletic board has medical doctors and specialist to consult on these things. I doubt they ever consider consulting Joe Rogan's opinion on anything.
I guess my point is, it's a dangerous blow, I don't think it's comparable to grabbing a fence to get up, or even a low blow.

The two shots st the end caused very little damage he took about 6-7 clean shots before those. I have seen fights were the fighter took just a few shots to the arms and they stopped it because he was not intelligently defending himself.
I think its funny that heel hooks are ok but not elbows from a certain angle. Thats a move that can end a career.

Yeah I think that they should have stopped it. Jon did great ground and pound for a while but Matt defended himself a little with his arms.
Btw Mike Goldberg told Joe that he is funny and should be a comedian. Joe should have said - You dumbass. I am a stand up comedian. No offense.
