I think wrestling is one of the best "bases" for MMA, seems to me that excellent boxing / mui thai are currently accounting for most victories with the help of spectacular takedown defence.

A good read is Randy Couture's bio. A lot of good wrestling and early day UFC stuff.

People who say wrestling is gay are idiots, most people talk about things they don't no nothing about. I once had bought all the Pride FC dvd and a guy at my job a skinny 6 feet 4 140 pound a$$hole said a bunch of gay beating on each other. Now that guy was a smoker, never had the balls to go to the gym and a moron.

What can i say seeing Sonnen kill is last oponnent is not enought to convince people that wrestling is it then what is.

Wrestling has taught me so much throughout the years. It's the base on which everything in mma is. People who say it's gay and all this bs, have no idea how much hard work it envolves to be a good wrestler. I love seeing the lazy kids all trash wrestling, and talk so much shut, but then they die after they run for 5 min. I think wrestlers are the best conditioned athletes in the world. Runfor hours, strong, explosive, tough. It also teaches character, dedication, proper nutrition. I just wish I knew then what I know now about diet, I feel like I could have been 100x's better than what I was. That's why I love coaching this sport at the youth level and high school levels.

Judo > Wrestling for mma. Close tho.=)

American wrestlers win in this american sport because wrestling is awesome, sure, but also because they have numerical superiority and are typically fricken animals on the norm physically, which is what actually translates best to mma. Even in Olympic freestyle, they are kown to be the greatest athletically yet come far behind other more technical countries.

first you wrestled since you were young. then for only 4 years. id have to agree that i never heard anyone call wrestling gay growing up. the football players were even smart enough to not shit talk wrestlers. are you sure your not in karate too? lol, i call b.s

anyway, it is THE best base for all mma period. it is the king of core strength, best cardio prep for mma, and second to none for building muscle stamina. bjj, is a close second in all those i believe. boxing, you either born with a punch or your not, and you cant survive on your feet in boxing or mma without a good punch, or at least it is very, very hard to.

I wrestled in high school and was a 2 time state champion and I also placed 3rd at Senior Nationals. Wrestling is a great start to MMA and I have never had anyone tell me its gay or I might have broke their back. Haha. I also call bs on the previous thread. That guy is probably a gymnast
