Restaurant Food Question
my question is...
will eating restaurant food be ok if im on a cutting diet?
well let me elaborate on that.... i woke up late today for work, well not late, but not in time to get my lunch made for the day.
so i was like "crap, i need my protein and veggie meal, but what can i do?"
so i know there is a papasitos seafood place around where i work, so i thought maybe id stop there
2 things went through my mind.
1. can i order the right food and still be healthy?
2. well, if i dont have the right food i need there, ill just consider today my cheat day for the week.
but when i went there, i looked at the menu and i saw a 6oz Grilled Lemon Pepper and Garlic Chicken Breast with Mashed Potatoes and Veggie Mix (Carrots sliced, Green Beans, Brocolli).
That seemed delicious to me, EXCEPT the mashed potatoes, i didnt want carbs at the time. So i ordered it and i told the waiter to sub. the mashed pot. for some MORE brocolli.
i got the plate and it was DELICOUS !!!! so now my Restaurant Food Question is....
seeing as how it was 6oz of chicken breast GRILLED over an OPEN FLAME (so not cooked in oil in a fryin pan) and the vegetables were steamed with seasoning, would this be ok to eat as a meal for my diet?
or no, sorry buddy, they add waaaay too much oils to there food, and the chicken breast may not be free of fat.
Dont get me wrong, if the food is ok to eat, great!! but i wont do it everyday, that plate was like $18 !! I cant afford that everyday for lunch, but is it ok?
did i get my necesary macros for my meal? 6oz grilled chicken breast and about 3-4 servings of veggies (it was ALOT of veggies!)
or is this a no no? should i consider today my cheat day then for having this food for lunch?
thank you guys for clearing this up for me, im looking forward to reading your answers!

I am by no means any kind of an expert here, but your meal didn't sound too bad to me. In fact - I would say that it was BETTER than the alternative of not eating anything at all?
I myself was stranded on the road the other day without a lunch meal & ended up getting a 2 piece rotisserie chicken meal from a local grocery store. It came with two sides so I just got broccoli for both. ( I sadly removed the skin from the chicken before eating )
It of course wasn't the grilled chicken & oats that are currently overflowing from my refrigerator, but was definitely better than cruising through a KFC.

Don't worry about it, it was only 1 meal. As long as you keep the food pretty basic, low sodium, you should be fine.

What you should get is one of those Ronco Rotisserie Ovens, I love mine
They're great and mine has a vegetable steamer on top of it too.

I have a roommate that works at both Pappas restaurants. They oil up their veggies after they steam them, which might be why they might have tasted better than usual, and you can ask them to hold the oils/butter. But its no sweat, like you mentioned you dont eat it everyday. Now as for pappasito's fajitas, I wouldn't eat them for cutting. The chicken is brushed with butter and they aren't skinless. But damn, they are fckin good.
Also I applaud your enthusiasm on the Forman, but I think most people will tell you that its a shallow comparison to open flame grill. Now the Rotisserie, thats the shit for indoors, but its only good with small game hens and you have to roast it with the skin. And that makes for a difficult cutting meal, well if your eager to eat quick, but damn its good.

thank you everyone for the posts !!!
so they brush it with oil huh? ..... well the veggies i did tell him to put the oils and butter to the side, the veggies alone were delicious
im more worried about the chicken, it was sooo juicy and delicious !!!
btw, here are pics. of me when i started my diet and how i am now
the first one is the before on 4-8-07 and the second one is from 8-17-07
as you can see, my diet, plus cardio everyday in the morning, and my dedication to the gym has really paid off !!
but that is why im careful where and what i eat, i dont wanna go back to my old self
my daily macros should be
255g pro
210g carb
39g fat
on high days add 20% to carb, on low days minus 20% on carbs, and thats what i do !!!

pappas
I worked as a waiter bartender and expo at pappas a bit back. The chicken is awsome. But, that is because it is brined in pineapple juice and slathered with butter. Not the healthiest thing in the world. You can get a plain chicken breast as fajitas if you ask though, its no problem. The beef is brined in soy sauce, so its salt content is high but it is probably healthier due to the lack of sugar.
