    More protein make more muscle??

Sure, eat some steak before bed.

Or drink some milk. Realistically, you'll probably
Be digesting dinner still, but if it makes you sleep
    Better eat something before bed

Steak is a good idea as the last meal before bed; however, milk will most likely inhibit the secretion of GH during sleep, which is why I would advice against it.

I usually get something close to diarrhea when I eat before bed, so I take casein instead, which should be effective for 6-8 hours.

Casein protein (slow release) before bed, like cottage cheese or something similar. A casein protein drink is fine too - not with milk.

Organic eggs and bacon is my last meal every day - The fat and protein keeps my testosterone production high

But if you want better gains it's best to go to bed around 10 PM 11 PM at latest and then get your 8 hrs sleep thats even more important than exactly what your last meals should be.. but I would go for a meal high in animal fat and protein and maybe take some magnesium, zink and taurine to boost your hormones even more!!

    Good luck with dieting !!

BTW: don't drink milk with your last meal just water you don't want all that lactose in the end of the day.. drink it with your protein shake post work out instead

I take a protein drink to bed with me every night. When I wake up to pee I pound it down. I really don't care what type protein it is at 0300hrs.

If you're eating a substantial protein source at dinner (e.g. beef), having a meal before you hit the pillow really isn't going to make or break anything. As stated earlier, if it helps you sleep better, go for it. If it feels forced. I'd opt not to. In either case, make sure you have your macros worked out to include ( or exclude) it in/from your diet.

Milk protein is part whey, part casein (not equal parts however). The casein is slow digesting, the whey obviously isn't. Tis' why some people consider milk a 'perfect' food, once you consider the complete macro profile (of whole milk).

Milk is 80% casein from my understanding. I've never heard of milk inhibiting GH production, TJ do you have an article on this? I'd be interested in reading it.
don't drink milk with your last meal just water you don't want all that lactose in the end of the day
    Can you explain why?
    Thanks

Milk is approx 80% casein and 20% whey. When it is processed Into supplement powders most of the lactose is removed. Lactose is a carb and carbs inhibit GH release because They spike insulin . Straight whey also spikes insulin. Casein curdles in the stomach blunting insulin release.

    So, milk = no
    Whey = no
    Casein = yes

My comment about sans milk was referring to the 13g's of sugar each serving contains.

Its true, isn't it? I now love Almond milk, to a degree.

I use it everything i would normally use milk in. The only difference for me is that i don't drink a glass of it. That's still kinda gross.

x2. Almond milk has completely replaced dairy milk in my diet. By doing this, I've accomplished 2 things:

1 - I've considerably reduced my sugar intake, and additionally upped my proteins acquired via 'real food' (i.e. meats & egg whites, to make up for the lost milk protein)

2 - I've eased my mind with regard to the concern about dairy milk being completely hormonal (estrogen). Whether it has a negative effect on humans is debatable, but I don't need to be worrying about it. Stress and worry = elevated cortisol.

eating before bed inhibits growth hormone release cause your blood sugar levels are out of wack when you're sleeping, plus our digestive system needs time to rest too, eating 2-3 hours before bed is a bad idea.

you wont lose mass over night.

I dont know if i agree with that. From what i understand, the only time you grow/repair is when your body is at rest. I would think that eating a casein protein, which is slow release, before bed would assist greatly in the repair process. Thoughts?

Correct. As my post above there is no insulin spike with casein only.

Eating 2-3 hours before bed? When the hell you supposed to eat dinner then...3pm? Go to bed at 10? Im not sure if I agree with this. I don't eat a massive dinner and then head right for bed, but I definitely eat 2-3 hours before bed...always.

So you're telling me nothing in your protein has the ability to spike or reduce insulin levels? that's a very bold statement. and teh calorie need to digest the casein is more taxing then the benefit of the actual protein you think u are digesting... seems like a large waste of money. Not to mention that ur body needs to rest, having your digestive system active while you sleep is not getting rest.

sorry but ill take my GH pulse over 30 grams of protein any day.

Personally, I eat when I'm hungry. That might be 7pm, 8pm, or in the case of the other night - I ate 10oz of Cod fillet in coconut sauce at 9pm before hitting the pillow an hour later. While I do consider meal timing to some degree, this debate, IMO, is overthinking it all. Just fcking eat, train and rest.

Protein has a small effect on insulin secretion. Protein + fat will blunt that to some degree. In either case, I don't believe the insulin response is enough to warrant any worry. As far as energy required for digestion - again, nothing I'd concern myself with. It's not terribly taxing, and it's happening at an ideal time when nothing much else is going on (during sleep).

Again guys, this doesn't need to be complicated. Dial in a diet plan, apply it, be consistent with it, and results will follow. Leave the overthinking to guys ready to step on stage. If that's not you, then it's a waste of time and effort, IMHO.

I lay in bed and eat 250g cottage cheese with strawberry jam + 250g blueberries all mixed together in a big bowl every night!! I just stopped this for the few weeks leading up to my holiday to lean out but otherwise thats what my new bedtime meal is.

Diet is as complicated as u wanna make it or as simple. For me bottom line: am i gaining fat? If the answer is "NO" i keep on rolling.

Edit: funny i wanted to note i posted this prior to reading the posts above(or below) LOL.

Its not that difficult and i like it this way. If im getting fat i reduce carbs if not i do nothing..

i guess the lesson here is a colored name on steroids .com said eat copious amounts of sugar before bed and you will be alright! i cant wait to read the first time someone quotes this in another thread lol.

LOL.. U know what mock thats not the lesson i get out of this: the lesson i get is u are acting like a little baby and trying to make a mountain out of a molehill as well as have a smart ass attitude that i particularly dont care for.

Id also like to note the jam is sugar free and blueberries and cottage cheese are fine to eat IMO as long as ur not gaining fat from it.

Id also like to note another thing u are incorrect about: this site is steroid .com (singular).. But i tell u what pal, u keep doing wat ur doing and ill keep doing wat im doing. My body composition speaks for me.

As for my color it has no bearing on the credibility of my statements. I dont know wat ur problem is, but u have one. Maybe u should spend less time thrning door handles and more time doing something u enjoy. Success for me in this lifestyle is not only measured by body composition, the mirror, and stats, but just as importantly by how invasive all this is on my life. The less invasive, the more successful i see myself.

Enjoy ur apparent misery buddy boy, i have a chest workout to do

You know what, ill try and simplify this a little more than GB has.

Take care of your calories and macro's and your hormones should take care if themselves.

FYI, my last meal is normal about 1.5-2 hours from bedtime and is carb and protein (red meat) heavy.

Spiked insulin levels do inhibit the release of growth hormone . But insulin is always present in some amount or another so it's incorrect to say that carbs or insulin blunt gh release. And the body isn't gonna not release gh at all because insulin levels are high, it will simply delay the release of gh until insulin levels are lowered. Our bodies are a little more resilient and adaptive then we sometimes give them credit for.

So are you saying that if you hit your macros for the day but carbs are eaten before bed, then body composition would be different then if consuming the exact same macros but omitting carbs before bed?

1 i wasnt having a go at 405, its true if a colored name posts something, anything people just believe it and rehash it as "true"

what works for 405 wont work for everyone,

2 stable blood sugar levels before bed is key and into 45 mins after you fall asleep. To me eating sugar right before bed would be an issue, sugars in general can be a problem and its not just about aesthetics and fat gain/loss.

And to answer your exact question body comp can change when eating carbs before bed, unless ur taking chromium at at least 100mcg with that said carb source to help insulin delivery. The necessary delivery system and use of carbs would be loss for energy usage if you are eating them and going to bed. YOur fat intake would have to be high enough to provide you with sufficient energy to get through the day. Again carbs are protein sparring and because it takes so much of your daily consumed calories to just digest protein not having carbs through out the day is only wasting your money and hurting your gains. Its like the whole post work out window of opportunity... even if you finsih training so late at night , your body is still breaking down everything that was added before the work out and through out the day. So its not like your body stop absorbing nutrients when you work out and you have to eat carbs post work out then go to bed.
