Do you have coconut yogurt where you live? Fantastic stuff and great w a handful of berries. I think the issue with dairy (apart from whether it's paleo) is that it is irritating to the gut for many people and promotes bloating (I thought that was crap until I did a month of paleo without it and then had a latte and felt horrible).
As an aside, if anyone is interested in paleo recipes, look up "Just Eat Real Food" on facebook and like them (I'm not affiliated). Lots of great looking food and recipes. I felt fantastic on paleo, and couldn't believe how eating all that good fat made me slimmer.

A Paleolithic "Paleo diet" is the best hands down way to eat on TRT. Paleo way of eating is the best way to control all the oxidative stress and silent inflammation in our bodies. This is the sole reason we age poorly and show the signs of ageing. I preach the Paleo way of eating with all my TRT patients who are compliant. Robb Wolf--The paleo Solution. Loraine Cordain---Wheat belly. Also Paleo Comfort Foods is a great book for good paleo recipes.
This is a great thread. Thanks for posting. A healthy lifestyle and Paleo diet is like rocket fuel for your TRT protocolLast edited by LowT Mike; 05-21-2013 at 09:55 AM.

A MEN!
Jumpstart your Paleo lifestyle with a Whole30 then go straight up Paleo from day 31 to ? and you will look and feel the best you have, ever! Any doctor who deals in TRT should sell Paleo to everyone they come in contact with. Mr. Brookins, that is so great buddy, there should be more doctors out there just like you, unfortunately there isnt... There's gotta be a way to get more people involved and aware of the benefits of eating Paleo as the "Western Diet" is killing people!

Yeah buddy! Paleo and CrossFit, the cults of health and fitness. The kool-aide tastes soo good!
BTW, You may not want to, but you most certainly can do without dairy, no matter if you do or do not have problems with it. .
Some practice Paleo as dogma, while others (most others) approach it as a lifestyle. That is, they make food choices based on Paleo principles. Paleo principles advise what dairy, grains, sugar, and legumes do in and to the body. Paleo principles inform us we should limit (if not totaly exclude) them as food choices. They certainly should no longer be staples of our diets. From there, if you wish to indulge now and then you can remain a member in good standing of the Paleo cult. Drink the kool-aide....

I know Paleo points fingers at the nutritional inadequacy of grains; and therefore, the Western diet... but what about rice?
I'm considering whether I should do Paleo or not, but man, I'mma miss my rice. I can see the gluten argument as viable, but rice is an absolute no-go? :-(

Here's the usual argument against rice, but it may not apply to you, or you may just choose to eat rice anyway.

Yep, well as people have already said, sometimes it's a bit of a religion. You have to choose the parts that work for you. Personally, I'm not being strict paleo at the moment, although I am eating very, very little grain and dairy. If I let myself have rice, I get terrible cravings. So I can see what it does to me.
If you wanted to experiment, do strict paleo for a week or two, then try a small serving of rice with something that is protein/fat rich, and see how you feel. Proof is in the pudding, more than theory, for me.
Here's a bit more from Mark Sisson, whose work is usually pretty balanced and well thought out (although you will see his conclusion is very similar)
Is Rice Unhealthy? | Mark's Daily Apple
You can also toss raw cauli in the food processor until it resembles rice. Some people quick steam it and then put it in the processor. When I first read that, I thought there was no way I would go for that. But it's actually pretty good and sort of addictive. And at least you're getting some nutrient and fiber. I feel much better if I eat that as opposed to rice, but your mileage may vary. Rice is a lot less harmful than wheat, so if you do eat rice, you will still be ahead of the game.

I am 90% paleo and I love it I am also on trt while blasting and cruising. It has completely transformed my body and shed a significant amount of body fat while keeping my strength and without sacrificing precious muscle. Though paleo is great it is nearly next to impossible to bulk since your carb intake is very low. That is why I have oats and brown rice in my diet. The benefits of paleo as mentioned are spot on since grains and dairy cause inflammation and water retention which is extremely noticeable if you are strict paleo and sway from your standard diet. It also very detoxifying and cleansing.

As complex carbohydrates go, rice is a pretty good choice.
Unless you are diabetic or otherwise unhealthy, or trying to loose weight, it is not necessary to avoid starch such as rice and potatoes. They are nutrient-dense and low in calories. However, they should not be daily staples of your diet.
The fact is there are so very few Paleolithic foods available today, and the ones we can point to have arguably hybridized over the millennia and not truly Paleolithic today. However, the Paleo purists thrive on pointing out non Paleolithic foods and picking them apart. Finding faults with them. The fact is, faults can be found in every food source.
Incorporate the Paleo principles into your food choices and try not to get too swept up into the dogma of the Paleo purists. Listen to your body. If you like rice (and rice agrees with you) enjoy your rice, occasionally. You'll get a whole lot more benefit from paying attention to the proportions of your macronutrients on your Paleo plate, than if your Paleo plate is 100% pure Paleo. You will benefit much more from paying attention to the sources of your food, keeping them organic and non-GMO, free ranged, grass feed and finished,..
I am very much a Paleo enthusiast. I do not believe that to live the Paleo lifestyle it is required to attend the church of Paleo. Make smart informed choices and then enjoy your whole unprocessed foods...

Wow. This is perhaps the most level headed post I've read on the Internet lol. I'm in total agreement. :-)
I'm thinking about trying paleo, in a sense like you -- not perfectly "strict," but in terms of eating wholesome, gluten and dairy free foods. To be honest, I my diet is utter garbage: cheap breakfast cereals, Ritz crackers and the like, diet-sodas, lots of bread, sugary granola bars, minimal fruits and vegetables...
... ahhhh, just thinking of what I ate today makes me feel awfully guilty for how I treat myself lol! I do avoid fast-food. That's the only good thing I can about current diet hahaha! I do have good blood pressure/labs/etc. My bodyfat is fairly low, too.
This is prolly a stupid question to ask in a paleo-promo thread, but should I try it? How long should I stick with it before I can determine whether it's of any benefit?
If I do, I'm gonna need A LOT of support. I live by myself, and it's easy to mindlessly eat a box of Triscuits or whatever edible trash I have nearby lol.Last edited by phaedo; 05-23-2013 at 02:15 AM.

You must be young! I used to eat junk, but as you get older eating like that really takes its toll.
I found it to be a lot of work to clean up my diet (this is going back a few years now!). The first thing I did was tell myself I wasn't eating anything out of a packet - nothing processed. It was a huge shift and I think I lived on mostly fruit for a week, trying to deal with the sugar cravings. But baby steps worked well and after a week and a half I got sick of fruit and branched out more, without the intense sugar/wheat cravings.
I roasted a bunch of chicken breasts and spiced them up and then sliced and put in the fridge. I washed a bunch of lettuce and stuff and put it in bags in the fridge as soon as I got back from the store so that making a salad wasn't some time intensive thing. If you like avocados, eat them often as the fat makes the meals and snacks so much more satisfying. Make a big jar of a vinaigrette you like and stick it in the fridge so you don't reach for the rubbish store bought ones. Saute up a big pan of whatever veggies you like, season with spices, and then cool and mix them in with raw scrambled egg and pour the mixture in a muffin pan and bake, then refrigerate and use as snacks. You could also saute up some good quality sausage or fish with the veggies to make the muffins more interesting.
Just some ideas to get you started.
