The guy on the left (his right) is lacking some muscle and does not have much in the symmetry department either but I would stop short of calling him soft. You can always be harder and he did not have the conditioning of the OP but for a local level show I would not call him really soft.

    Amazing job

your back, hams, and glutes stand out!

delts and arms need to catch up.. although at 5 7 and 180 lbs... they're definitely big.. it's all relative

lol jesus u destroyed that class, cant imagine how those guys felt standing next to u,

i agree with fireguy u could use more work on ur arms,

i think IF u wanted to be real critical and picky MAYBE a little more calve size might be good, and bring out ur inner quad abit more, out of ur delts id say maybe ur middle one could use little more size

ur hamstrings and glutes are great, ur back has great symatrey, aswell as ur delts, chest i think is perfect, and ur forearms are just beastly

well done mate, must have gone through alot

    Thanks
    Now for a critique.

You have a solid build... and great development.

But, I think now's the time to prioritize.

Your lower body is huge... but your upper body needs to be improved if your package is to flow well.

Your glutes throw your symmetry from the side IMO... particularly because your delts and arms could use a lot more size.

I'd prioritize 'em... traps as well.

In the rear shots, the eye is drawn downwards...and it stays there.

To understand what I'm saying: Trying covering half the rear pic with your hand and you'll see (when viewing your upper body and lower body separately), that there is a huge difference between the two.

    That being said, awesome showing.

I agree that you should stay as a light-heavy.

At the top end of your class you'd be SICK!

Totally agree with you man. To be competitive at a national level I need to add about 15lbs of lbm to my upper body. Legs have never been a problem for me. I'm considering training legs a bit less frequently and really prioritizing from the waist up.

Out of curiosity, what's your ROM look like on this lift?

I always stiff leg from the floor........I'm not a fan of standing on an elevated platform to get extra range of motion (and with the amount of weight I use on the exercise it couldn't possibly be safe). I would say I get pretty close to 90 degrees......weight never touches the ground though.

I train completely by feel. No logbook, no set plan.........I just show up knowing what body part I want to train and go. One day could be super high volume the next could be low. Until recently I trained each bodypart once a week. However, I've been trying to hit everything (except legs) every 5th day. I'm hoping to stimulate some upper body growth with the more frequent workouts. I'm always open to new training ideas and principals if you've got anything good.

surprised no one mentioned back width? looked awesome to be sure but that's the first thing that stood out to me that could be improved......could just be because like nark said ur eye is drawn downward in those back shots because the legz outdo everything else to such a degree.

makes me wonder how huge i'm gonna look on stage.....my lbm is like 185-195 now and i'm not even 5'8

Whatever you think you're going to weigh onstage...........knock at least 10-15 lbs off of it. That's if you plan on being in what I consider "real stage" condition. I'm sure anybody that competes can back me up on this. Bottom line is you're never as big as you think you are.

Why not? The light heavy class goes from 176.25 to 198.25. Are you saying you're anticipating being heavier than 198.25 onstage?

Today is leg day so I think I will hit some of those! What does your sldl routine look like (weight and reps), and when do you work these into your leg workout (after quads or before)? Thanks for the insight bro!

That's what I'm talking about. I always switch it up......sometimes I'll hit quads first other days I'll hit hams first. I did legs on Monday this week....the workout looked like this.

    Stiff Legs 1set x bar for 15, 2 x 135 for 12, 1 x 225 for 10, 1 x 315 for 10, 1 x 405 for 6, 1 x 315 for 12 (I really only count 315 and up as working sets).

Followed that with 3 sets each of squats, leg extensions, and my super secret hamstring exercise (it's kind of hard to explain but involves a lat pulldown device and a wooden pole). I can elaborate further if you're interested.

My best advice to you is to throw out your scale and forget about weight. I don't own a scale and don't really care what I weigh during contest prep. I've seen too many guys target a weight that they think they need to be and end up looking fat onstage. Keep in mind, I usually am walking around in the low to mid 190's the week leading up to a show. I drop anywhere from 10-15 lbs of water the last 2 days before a show.

Amen to that, cant believe how many times I go over this with people. They are 205-210 eight to ten weeks out and think they are going to hit the stage at 190. Ruhl, I know I have talked about this with you before. I competed this weekend and was 202 lbs thursday night and weighed in at 191.8 a mere 36 hours later. The avi pic was taken 7 days out BTW so you get an idea of how much weight you lose even when already lean.

For future reference when it comes to tanning color, the saying goes, when you think you have enough put on another coat!!! The lights on stage whiten you badly so the darker the better!!!! I dont think there is a such thing as too dark!!

That would be a bit difficult to do. My macros get adjusted every week depending on how I'm looking/feeling. Sometimes they would even be adjusted mid week depending on how things were going. If you have specific questions regarding my nutritional approach feel free to ask. I'll do my best to try to answer them.

Damn, I have uttered those words more than a few times myself. I keep all contest diets in spreadsheet format so I can look back through them and they are adjusted at the very least on a weekly basis. This kind of information is great to put out there. I dont think many people realize the difference between dieting to get lean and contest dieting.

You have quite a bit of good info Mumf, you need to start doing better than 52 posts every 4 years. You should hang out in the diet, training and competition sections and lend some advice.

Hahahaha.......thanks man. I'm not sure if anybody would like what I have to say though. My approach to bodybuilding (as I'm sure yours is too) is quite different to what I see discussed often on this board.
