Fukushima: Global threat of mass extinction and meanwhile we're getting fallout.

Does anyone feel concerned about fukushima? West coast is getting significant fallout. Considering that most of our produce comes from the west coast, we're eating it.

The radiation biomagnifies as it moves up the food chain. This means that if you eat meat or drink milk, then you're getting a good dose of all kinds of isotopes, including plutonium, which is the most toxic element known.

If unit 4 should collapse in an eartquake, the radiological release would be the equivalence of 15, 000 Hiroshima bombs. California would have to evacuate and Japan would be a dead zone. For the western hemisphere in general, it would be a mass extinction event. Billions would die.

    What say you?

I'm definitely concerned friends. Bad situation over there.
They are currently trying to manually remove bundles of spent fuel rods from the top of unit 4. This is a very dangerous procedure. If criticality is reached and fission occurs it's game over northern hemisphere.

Mainstream media is not really covering fukushima. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon is well informed on Fukushima. The consolidated mass media is involved in a cover up. They protect the nuclear industry. You're not watching news. You're watching public relations. General Electric owns NBC/MSNBC and they are are sponsors at other networks. GE is also one of the top 10 defense contractors.

The GE designed "Mark 1" was flawed and GE new it. Yet, they sold it to Japan anyway. Thank you GE..

Since media deregulation under Bill Clinto (see Telacommunications act 1996), 90% of all news outlets are owned by 6 different conglomerates. That's a lot of power. So the so-called "news" serves private and not public interest. Don't trust it on anything.

Most reliable information comes from Arnie Gunderson, Harvey Wenstein, and Helen Caldicott.

    Research Fukushima!

How about some radiation with that coffee bump! Did you know that the FDA raised the "safe" level of radiation in your food? Isn't that splendid how our government "protects" us?

Maybe no one cares. True. You can't see radiation. It's invisible. You can't taste it either. Made up? Not sure what you mean by that. Covered up by the media? Most definitely. It's the most important story omitted by corporate media. Do some independent news outlet fear monger? Sure. Granting that, the magnitude of the problem is huge. It's global in scale. Reliable information? Again, see Arnie Gunderson, Harvey wasserman, Helen Caldecott.

Unfortunatley, if Fox, CNN, NBC dont talk about it, its not important.

Im with you brother, it is ****ed. The pacific is dying, quickly. Noone realizes that if all the sea life s affected, we are all gone.
They are dumping billions of gallons of contaminated water into the Pacific for 3 years now. The shit is airborne as well. It is the biggest threat to our way of life.

But hey did you see the Golden Globes the other nite? I bet you saw the new Kardashians, or Hone Boo Boo.

Our society are made up of brainwashed robot, consumers. Fukushima or not we are all ****ed.

Its called a soft kill. They poison our food, our water, our air, our clothes, our kids. Got to get the population down, so they can weild their stick.

Ive got a thread going in the Lounge, that gets little to no action. Again, if its not in the news, it must not be important.

    Nonsense!

I am in Japan working on US bases right now....in fact one base in particular that I have done work on is only 200 miles away from Fukushima. Lots of US service people in Japan and many US embassy folks are based in Tokyo....them still been here is what I use as my indicators of current risks, not to mention the number of local folks who have been running radiation testing.

The Navy sailors you are referring to were in the middle of plume of radioactive steam and toxic seawater ...it sucks for those guys...but get some facts first...

I do have my information straight. I've been watching this closely for
2 years now. Propaganda works! There's no doubt about that. For those prone to submission to authority you predictably ape the official line. I'm a skeptic so I'm more inclined to question authority and I look to independent sources. Arnie Gunderson is a nuclear engineer and whistle blower. He's a reliable source of information for obvious reasons. He took some soil samples in Tokyo and these samples prove to be highly contaminated. You can research that on your own if you'd like or you can embrace your certitudes. That's up to you. That said, I wish you were right but unfortunately, you're not. Fukushima radiation is found in milk in the US. Independent readings on the west coast routinely spike in excess of 100 com (alert level). High readings are found in
precipitation. Hot particles were found as far east as Boston
So far, Fukushima radiation has killed 14,0000 Americans. That comes from a peer reviewed medical journal.

It gets worse. Again, unit #4 was heavily damaged from the earthquake and tsunami in March of 2011. That building is has seismically induced bulges and it's sinking unevenly into saturated ground that could easily undergo liquefaction in the next earthquake. The building is on the verge of collapse in an eartquake prone area. It has about 400 tons of spent fuel about 100 feet off the ground. Engineers predict that a magnitude 7 or more will bring the structure down and that event would be apocalyptic to say the least.

As far as what you said about local testing, you don't give specifics on that. I'm going to give you a hint: Don't trust officials! Get your own Geiger counter. Believe those numbers! Good luck my friend!

I don't think the major new media will look the other way if there are evidence of serious contamination, I believe they would jump on this like flies on shit. just the fact that there isn't much said by the media means there isn't enough evidence to suggest a serious threat. I hope I am right and you're wrong because it is scary shit!

@ Bass: You just never know if it is serious, the gov can clamp down on anything they want including the news media. Can you imagine the pandemonium.

@ spywizard: Yeah the diversion from OB..... also.
Effects on human life can show up many years later and with all the other distractions, pesticides etc, find a compilation of things to blame.
I also wouldn't count on military stationed in Japan making it ok. But i hope it is! Not getting into a debate about this, but that's my take on it.

I am in Tokyo right now. You have no idea how people I know whom own and use geiger counters....yes there has been a rise in readings of late....but not a number that warrants concern....curiosity yes.

You say "Fukushima radiation has killed 14,0000 Americans" post your source when making such comments.

Your man Arnie Gundersen has less credibility then accolateds...while I don't know who he is....I did take a look at some of his claims....****ing obsured

San Francisco Bay View » Is the increase in baby deaths in the northwest U.S. due to Fukushima fallout? How can we find out?

This article discusses the 14, 000+ US deaths (mostly infants, who are most vulnerable to fallout) and mostly on the west coast.

Hey friend! You made a comment about Arnie Gundersen - something silly sounding. I'll respond by saying that this isn't a petty game of one-upmanship son. This is serious business and it's about getting it right so that we can respond intelligently and protect ourselves and our loved ones. Informed decisions make a difference.

It's important to share information with others and encourage people to contact their representatives, many of whom who have little idea about the grave danger of Fukushima and how it is being mishandled by TEPCO and the world's governments.

The global response is comparable to what happened in the Ukraine in 1986 (Chernoble). It's all about cover up and protecting the nuclear industry. So information on the Fukushima is going to be mixed, as the main stream corporate media will down play or omit information. . Meanwhile, other media sources may exaggerate particular events (fear sells). So, one has to be a critical consumer of information, which is easier said than done.

Chernoble killed a million people and to this day, it is impacting people and the ecosystem. Fukushima, by contrast, is fourfold worse than Chernoble and it's likely to get worse.

Given the risk, this is pure insanity. There's a kind of ideological blindness that attends unfettered capitalism. Fukushima makes it clear that in the end we will all go down with the sociopaths who rule this world.

To be sure, there is no "safe" level of radiation. In fact, low dose radiation exposure is more harmful than a large single exposure.

Practical advice? Always drink filtered water. Get a reverse osmosis water filter and a carbon filter. Find out where your food sources come from. West Coast is worse. Food coming from the southern hemisphere is safer. Stay away from dairy. Meat is risky because of bioacumulation as radiation moves up the food chain. Obviously, don't eat sea food from the Pacific.

Start by researching Fukushima. I mentioned reliable sources earlier. Spread the word. Take care. Contact your representatives. The FDA shouldn't raise the safe limits if radiation. It should monitor and pull. Human lives before profit! No nukes!

San Fran article above proves nothing. It's an assumption just like the rest of ours. No facts!

The article is comparing the 4 weeks prior to the 10 weeks after with an average of 3 additional deaths per week. I didn't see anything stating "14,000 people (babies) died from fall out".

And like everyone else, your information is from stuff you are reading on the web and/or news so it is no more credible than anything else online.

So to answer your question, no, I'm not worried. No point in living life in fear, especially since there is not a thing you can do. When we die we die, so enjoy it while it last.

I don't take offense. The goal is to expose people to our situation. I can't think for a particular individual. I know there's some mature minded, educated people here who can investigate this on their own and think for themselves. It can inform their decision-making and reduce their chance of getting cancer. Eating radiatctive isotopes isn't going to kill people over night. It may affect a considerable proportion of people in 10-15 years. The cancer rates will soar. No doubt.

Incidentally, the pentagon is stock piling millions of doses of potassium iodide which protects the thyroid from fallout. This is an indication of the obvious. Things are likely to get worse. Grim. Sorry for the bad news people. Take action.

Man you are really rolling out the credible sources here lol....no offense, but I picture at your PC wearing a tin foil hat.

Measurement results of environmental radiation levels in Tokyo

The above link shows levels of radiation in Tokyo today, these levels that have been taken regularly by many parties apart from the linked source, you can see that the radiation doses for today, they compare with any other large city and are below New York`s readings....hope that info won`t cause you any distress. So riddle me this Mike Dura....why are these numbers fine when Tokyo is only 150 miles away, but you claim Fukushima radiation has killed 14,0000 Americans??

I must leave on this note of common sense, as this is going nowhere, but I wish you the best of luck with the whole conspiracies life style.

Follow your bliss my friend. I understand that this is a bodybuilding forum. I didn't expect the information to be useful for everyone. Those who are hasty to respond failed to think. This message is for the person who was prompted to pause, suspend judgement, investigate, reflect and be mindful of what they eat, call a representative, encourage others to research, etc.

For any serious person - the best info on fukushima is from Arnie Gundersen, Harvey Wasserman, Helen Caldicott.
In general, some news will down play it, while other news outlets may exagerate. If you can link the news source to corparate ownership or corporate underwriters, you are listening to pro-nuclear propaganda.
